Enjoyed hearing the history of the mine, and it was a fairly quick and easy shuttle to the mine from the cruise ship dock. The tour guides were all very knowledgeable and interesting. We would recommend this tour as it's very affordable and fun for the whole family. If I had one thing to suggest, the pan that were were given to find gold was as small as a teacup saucer, we were expecting more of a realistic pan for this experience, but it was still fun and we found a few flakes.

This was a very interesting tour even if you don't think you are interested in mining. The tour guide was very knowledgable and explained the process of the mining in an easy to understand way. The guide who told us about the mill process was great. We all got to pan for gold and walked away with some gold flecks of our own. There is a little general store that is run by the owner and on a non-rainy day it would be a great place to wander around the ruins of the old mill site. But we didn't let the rain ruin our visit. The tour of the underground mine isn't great if you don't like dark places but there isn't a lot of walking and you are only in the mine for around 30 minutes. You have to wear a hard-hat and flat footwear is best.

My husband and i very much enjoyed this tour…we were picked up and driven to the mine by a very hospitable and knowledgeable guide.
The information we received while going through the mine was obviously given by someone who enjoyed what he was doing and very knowledgeable on the workings of the mine…(Dean)…Jill then explained the process of the mine after the ore was extracted…we finished by viewing a working stamping machine and doing some panning for gold ourselves.
The tour was different from most others offered and I am glad we took the time to find it on TripAdvisor.

We booked this tour online through Cool Destinations. It was a awesome tour of a gold mine. Roger was very knowledgeable and he demonstrated two old pieces of equipment for us. We were told the history of the mine, then taught how to pan for gold. All of the employees were very helpful and they answered all of our questions. It was a fun experience.

I went on this trip and enjoyed very much but I like history too. You spend time underground told by a real miner. He spoke very good about mining but seem annoyed by children asking him questions but still enjoyed.

What a great trip!We went on this experience in August '22 with our 3 kids between 4 and 11 years old.We were collected promptly and with good communication, so no stressing about getting there on time etc. The driver was extremely knowledgable about the local area and history, and kept us interested and entertained on the short journey to the gold mine.On arrival we toured the gold mine, with a tour guide with many years of hands-on experience - something we could see when he showed us how to work all the tools in a live demonstration.We then went down to where the old plant had been when the old mine was in action, we found out all about how it worked in practice with guides that had an excellent knowledge of the history of the site, and the local gold mining history.
We had a demonstration of some of the equipment the plant would have used, which gave us real visual practical knowledge of the inner workings of the process.We then got to try our hand at gold panning, and found real gold! Our kids loved this part especially as they could physically see (and take home) some real flecks of gold.We had a great time, I was initially concerned the kids may get bored at times (as they can be hard to keep focussed!) but they were really interested and engaged in every aspect. The team made the experience very interactive, hands-on and visual.Cost-wise it was significantly cheaper than a lot of the alternative tours that were available, and I think we go more of an experience from it. I'd certainly recommendd the experience. Excellent value for money.
