Welcome to St Augustine

Founded by Spanish admiral and Florida’s first governor Pedro Menéndez de Avilés on September 8, 1565, St. Augustine Florida is the oldest continuously-inhabited European settlement in the U.S. The city also sits on the site of a Native American village where Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon came ashore in 1513 on his search for the fabled Fountain of Youth. This long history means St. Augustine offers a lot to see and do. Visitors can enjoy touring historic mission and church buildings, a variety of museums, a jail and school house that are both well over a century old, a fun re-creation of an early 20th century general store, and many haunted locations throughout the city.
