South Padre Island is a small beach resort town on the southern tip of a long barrier island stretching along the Gulf Coast of southern Texas. The town is named after the island, which extends from the port city of Corpus Christi south about 113 miles nearly to the Mexican border. A well-known spring break destination for college students from around the world, the town is also a great family vacation destination. Popular activities include sand castle building, dolphin watch tours, parasailing, jet ski riding, sunset dinner cruises, beach horseback riding, bay and ocean fishing, kiteboarding, and windsurfing. It is easy to get around the small town and along the beach strip by golf cart or bike.
