Overview

The Historic Old Louisville Walking Tour is a guided tour of the heart of the Victorian Mansion district in Old Louisville. Designed by a prominent local architect and historian, this tour focuses on the history and architecture of this nationally recognized historic preservation district boasting the largest collection of Victorian Mansions in the United States. The tour begins in the comfortable, Frederick Law Olmsted designed Visitors Center in Central Park. You are guided through iconic St. James and Belgravia Courts, then proceed along South Fourth Street, Ormsby Avenue, and the grand boulevard Third Street, which was known as Millionaire's Row in the 1890s. Then you are led back to the starting point.
All proceeds from the Historic Old Louisville Walking Tour support the work of the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council, a nonprofit organization that serves as an advocate for the community and works for historic preservation.

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning! Our tour guide Leslie was superb, full of knowledge and a warm personality. The history was all new to us, and the homes and streetscape are beautiful. One of the highlights of our visit to Louisville.

The guide was very knowledgable and friendly. Did not rush through the history of the area and the houses. Was interesting that she was the great grand daughter of the man who did the woodwork in the Conrad Cauldweld house.

Our group was small and our tour guide was excellent. She was knowledgeable about the area and answered every question thoroughly. It was a very good tour.

This personal and engaging tour comes with a 50-page guide book with maps and photos. The area you are in was the 1883-1887 Southern Exposition. The houses come is a wide variety of styles but the surprise of the tour is the elegant St. James Court and the equally elegant Belgravia Court. The houses here face a gardened esplanade with sidewalks. It is one of the loveliest "developments" one will ever see. Our tour guide was excellent; a one hour tour became two. Be aware: This is NOT the Louisville Visitor Center. This hard to find place is IN Central Park. Don't rely on GPS. The tour begins at a building near the tennis courts.

Old Louisville features the largest contiguous collection of Victorian residential architecture in the nation. And there is no better way to experience this collection of historic homes than via the Historic Old Louisville Walking Tour.My guide was both personable and very knowledgeable. She was able to provide interesting background regarding virtually every property we passed along our walk. Further, as a first-time Louisville visitor, my guide provided important background which helped provide context to not only the area's architecture, but also the city's historic development.Whether you’re a visitor or a Louisville resident, the Historic Old Louisville Walking Tour is an enjoyable way of spending a few hours in River City.

Very informative. A great tour for lovers of late 19th/early 20th century homes that are being lovingly cared for/restored.

This tour was very interesting and fun. Our tour guide clearly explained the homes by their history, style, and added some personal “notes.” It was a beautiful day and nice walk around the area. It was obvious our tour guide was not only knowledgeable, but passionate about what she does. Definitely worth doing while in the area.
