This was one of the best experiences my partner and I did in Mexico. Adhey & her husband Enrique are the loveliest people, they were so friendly and welcoming. The cooking class was awesome fun, and the food we made at the end was genuinely some of the best we had during our entire trip. Incredibly high recommendation to others for doing this tour!

Amazing experience
We were lucky, because we were just the two of us, so we had basically a private class :). Oscar was a really nice host, he explained everything, and even more. In the market he intruduced us to different ingredients and talk about how to use them. During the cooking part, we were part of every process, and meanwhile we were cooking the rest of the team made sure we had everything and cleaned every time it was needed. We made two appertizers, a soup, a main course and even a dessert!

Chef Oswaldo had a sweet set up. The walk was short from the meet up place. He is knowledgeable about his culture and food. He was so patient with everyone. My 4 and 5 year old was able to join, and they did when they felt like it. It felt like cooking with family. He made everyone feel right at home. What we created, we cooked, and we ate. What a cool and unforgettable experience. My family said this was the best part about their trip to Oaxaca and I agree 100%

From the moment we arrived, Adhey and Enrique welcomed us with such warmth that it genuinely felt like we were cooking alongside family. Learning the traditional recipes passed down from Adhey’s abuelita made the experience even more special. The food was incredible - packed with delicious flavours and spice. This vegetarian cooking class with Chef Victor was one of the highlights of my trip to Oaxaca. Victor's knowledge of Oaxacan cuisine and indigenous Zapotec culture is exceptional, and it was a genuine pleasure to learn from him.The class started with a trip to a local market, where we sampled local products (chocolate, cheese, fruits) and heard about their history and production. From there, we got fully hands-on making mole, guacachile, several salsas, rice, and tortillas from scratch, with Victor explaining the story and technique behind every dish.The atmosphere was fun and relaxed (with plenty of mezcal along the way!). There were only three of us in the session, which made it feel personal. Victor even taught us a few words in Zapotec, which was a lovely touch. By the end, we had an enormous spread of food in front of us, and every single dish was delicious.All the staff at Etnofoods were fantastic, and the whole experience felt like exceptional value for money.One thing worth flagging: this class is rooted in indigenous Zapotec cuisine, which is naturally plant-based, so vegetarians and meat-eaters alike will get a completely authentic experience — no one is missing out here!Highly recommend, and I'd book without hesitation.

The vegetarian cooking class was a highlight of my visit to Oaxaca. Victor, the chef/instructor, explained the history of the largely plant-based cuisine of the region, and shared memories of his grandmother’s traditional cooking. Besides helping to prepare (and eat) delicious food with layers of flavors, I received an excellent lesson on Oaxacan culture. Highly recommended!

We learned to make the most delicious mole (two kinds!) and while we were doing it, we also learned about the historical roots of Mexican cuisine. The food was fantastic, as were the locally sourced mezcal margaritas! (Our son had a mocktail version.) But best of all, Jane is a wise, warm, and lovely host and teacher. And her place was beautiful. So grateful for the time we shared.

Rare and wonderful! Sandy our guide and Tonya Minerva’s daughter picked us up and took us for a market tour. It was nice to see and have experienced guides for the market. Minerva’s outdoor kitchen was amazing. We love to cook and the food, ingredients and cooking methods were a great opportunity to learn so much more. We learned to make an amazing mole and to cook tortillas on the Comal. She shared with us her 8 year journey from a suggestion that she do a cooking class for a couple interested in learning local cooking methods to now with regular groups traveling through her home. Our experience for so special with Minerva and her team. We are particular about how we spend our time on vacation and prefer this mix of smaller, personal and local experience. We highly recommend!

We reserved a Mezcal Mixology three hours before the class, and IT DID NOT disappoint! Diego is a great and fun teacher that takes you from basics, we did three drinks and the last one you get to create your own using the skills you just learnt. We were mixing dancing and laughing in the classroom, and the drinks were AMAZING 🤩 Highly recommend!
