Tentative about what to expect. Moved from cafe to murals to book shops; in search of clues. Great family activity exploring York.

An excellent day with the family, really enjoyed the whole experience and my 9 year old loved it. Very reasonably priced in comparison to a conventional escape room, filled a whole afternoon nicely in a wonderful city. Also nice to be able to go at your own pace and the number of businesses that collaborated as part of the experience was really impressive to see.

We found the experience really good. It made us look around and see things and areas we probably wouldn’t have. We will happily take part in another one soon. Would recommend

We had a lovely tour with Maureen through the city of York. She took us to some hidden spots which we otherwise likely would have missed and told us about the history. We had lots of questions and were glad that she could answer them and was flexible to adapt to our needs and interests.

It was a lot of fun and really helped us to see more of the city that we wouldn’t have otherwise! It was a great way to get out and walk around more, as well as helping us to learn more about the city.

A fun and interactive way to discover York. We were entertained by the queer clues and had hints to help us along the way. We got to see York and its many wonders. Thank you for such a wonderful experience.

Had a fabulous day doing the snicketways scavenger hunt. Saw places that I had never noticed before, despite living so close. Would thoroughly recommend and I’m looking forward to trying some other hunts.

Would highly recommend for a day out! We completed the secret city as a team social with our university and all thoroughly enjoyed! ‘The quirks and snickets’ trail took us around many areas of York we had never noticed before and allowed us to stop for refreshments at cute cafes and pubs along the way including the minster Inn which served amazing stone baked pizza and homemade food. Look forward to trying the other trails next time too!Thanks to the ‘Secret city team’ for being prompt to reply to any queries and questions and going the extra mile to help! Top class service! This experience is well worth it. It is an interactive murder mystery hunt using your phone and took us through York to places that we would never have seen. The storyline is excellent and the clues make you think and look for the answer. Our group who are in their later years managed with all the walking and felt a great sense of achievement when it was completed.I would recommend this for all whether you are a pensioner, teenager or a family and are looking for something different to do whilst visiting.

Brilliant - we didn't know York very well so was great to wander around and learn about the city. We went places we wouldn't have ever found before. We really recommend this game and found it fun and easy to understand.

We had the most wonderful time falling in love with our home city all over again. The excitement when we got a clue correct was unbelievable, you really get drawn into the mystery. It was so well planned out and a lovely route, showing York at it’s very best. Would definitely do it again! 😊

My husband and I enjoy escape rooms, but felt our kids (11 & 9) have been just a bit too young.However, this was perfect for us all to do together! We all very much enjoyed it. Much better than some other city based treasure hunt games we have done (by another operator) as you have physical things (and in some cases people) to interact with. We got distracted by a street performer and some churros...which then meant we had to rush a bit - I would have loved to know how far we were through so we could gauge this a bit better - in the end we had 30min to spare (if it was possible, we didn't spot it).Also felt we had some (gentle) exercise, and saw some parts of York we hadn't been to before. We loved the lack of time pressure (before we got distracted ;) ).Only part we were a little frustrated by was looking for cats! We hadn't realised initially that there were LOADs of little cat statues all over York, which caused us some confusion. Especially as these were some of the only parts that were timed, and the shambles was chaos today - so couldn't easily wander up and down looking for them - and it wasn't clear until we got the hint which part of the street they were in - by which time we were at the other end.Overall a great day, thanks - please do more of these up north!

Really enjoyable. My wife and I wanted something different to the usual 'date night' and I found this online. So glad we did. I highly recommend. No local knowledge is required. Indeed, the 'mission' took mee to parts of York I'd never seen. One of the best couple of hours I can reccomend in York.

We did the secret city murder mystery in York at the weekend we chose to use what's app for the clues and as I work in this industry I wanted to see how well it all worked. I can safely say it was seemless and alot of fun the clues came quickly and gave great cryptic clues make sure you read the questions tho a few times I read them a Completyly different way to my husband lol which meant some back tracking but we had a great time exploring the back streets and outer edges of York it took us just over 2 hours to complete at a leasuirly pace and we stopped for lunch and some drinks at one of the allotted break times all in all highly recomend I'd definatly like to do more of these tours

Wow excellent day out! Took my time and enjoyed discovering loads of interesting stuff. Finished in a pub, perfect!

The York Sleuths completed the mysteryWe just finished this epic walk around the city, and discovered some interesting things and went to places we haven’t before. There is a couple of warnings when doing the Fatal Feud walk. I wouldn’t go down the black horse passage when it’s dark or down the canal footbridge. I would instead walk down Walmsgate instead and walk along the walls to get to the suspension bridge instead.Our other tip is to read the question at least twice as some of the riddles can cause confusion and may lead you in the wrong direction.There are couple of drinking stops on the way or cafes and can get food on your way back to town from your last location. We felt it’s a different way to explore the city without having to get on a tour bus or get a guide. You don’t need to know York well to get around as the guide is fully directed.Overall we had lots of fun and would definitely do another
