A fabulous trip today. Got to love the smell. Took me back 60 years!

It was a wonderful trip back in time with a Steam Engine. Definitely start with breakfast at the Rusty Rails Cafe at the train station with the resident piano player. The volunteer staff (at all levels and job descriptions) go our of their way to create a memorable experience. The trip up to Amamoor and back was lovely with excellent commentary. Amamoor is a great little village to wander around.

First time for me very enjoyable day.

It was a good day cruising, got to see beautiful mansions along the waterways, & luxury yachts along the SeaWorld. To hop off at the HOTA was a bonus, with its beautiful architecture & view of the GC, plus the outdoor theatre. Alan the driver was accomodating with enlightening commentary

Great morning train ride through the Mary Valley. The train staff were excellent and the the steam train atmosphere was unique.

We had a great trip as a family on the Mary Valley Rattler. Very authentic experience on a steam train. The trip to Amamor and return was just the right length with a lovely coffee or lunch break at the turnaround point. Great for older people and kids alike. The volunteers are amazing. It was a great day out

We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience from start to finish. The trip takes you out from Gympie through the countryside to Amamoor where we watched the engine turn round on a steam powered turntable before making our way back. One of the highlights of the journey was learning about the history and traditions of the train itself and steam travel as told to us by our Carriage Attendant John. John was very knowledgeable and with his great sense of humour made the whole experience fun and entertaining.

Everything about the experience, from the online booking, to arriving at the station, the journey, the turnaround time in Amamoor, was excellent. Our train was a sellout, so I suggest you arrive at the station before 8am. The queues at the check-in and the cafe soon build. We only had coffee before boarding, but it was great coffee. We booked the Classic option, and we also ordered the scone and jam option. This was a very good choice. The scone and jam were most tasty, but we were also assigned seating with a table. This made the journey a little bit more comfortable. Overall, it is very good value for money, and all the volunteers do a fantastic job and make every effort to ensure you have a safe and memorable time. PS. Every effort should be made to keep the Rattler going, for now and our future generations. It is a part of our history that should not be discarded and forgotten.

Great half day out travelling thru rural countryside. Only downside was the commentary on the train wasn’t loud enough to hear.

My family and I had a wonderful day on the stream train. The volunteers were amazing and a wealth of knowledge. We will definitely be on again.

A pleasant day experienced with a train full with a mixed group of passengers. Although seating was tight it was comfortable and allowed for easy conversation with those around us. Only disappointment was the window beside was blocked limiting my opportunity to see the countryside. The commentary provided enough information. I have read that the Red Rattler may be under threat- this would be a huge disappointment because there is limited access to working heritage railways.

We did a pets on board experience. Absolutely loved it. The carriage very clean & we were well looked after. An absolute credit to all involved to preserve this wonderful heritage rail experience.

Our grandson is frothy about trains, so this was the perfect birthday present for him. They only love 30mins away and we met them there for the morning train ride to Amamoor and return. It’s an informative, fun train ride and a great activity for families. Kids and dogs are welcomed.

Great half day trip. Very scenic journey up the Mary Valley. Step back in time behind a historic steam train, ideal memory for the young and old.
