Black Sand Beach Horse Riding Tour from Vik

Sweet horses and fun adventure
We had a wonderful time riding the sweet Icelandic horses of the Vik Horse Adventure stables! The guides were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, confident and made us feel at ease. I have only ridden a handful of times and I felt very safe on this tour. The beach was beautiful. It was cold and rainy so recommend wearing lots of layers and appropriate raingear for riding. It was fun to try the tolt in the way back! Highly recommend this fun and adventurous activity in Vik.

This is a must do excursion. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed riding horses on the lava fields. The guided were very helpful and the horses were terrific. One of the best things we did during our stay on Iceland.

Iceland Hotses
Black Sand horseback riding was a beautiful experience. There were first time riders in our group as well as experienced riders. It is not an all out “do what you want” ride but rather a group experience. The horses are well cared for and very sweet. You do have an opportunity to experience the Icelandic sokk. Their personalities were unique and the tour guides were very knowledgeable and helpful.

An Amazing Horseback Riding Experience
I made the reservation months ago and realized the night before that I stupidly put in the wrong time! I messaged the stable and Anna got back to me so quickly about moving us to the earlier time and also getting us transportation from Akureyri to their barn. Crisis averted! Once we arrived we were taken into the barn and outfitted with any rain gear we may have needed. We were sized for our helmets and then Linnea paired us with our horses. Once we had a short time to make our horse's acquaintance (Hi Narfi!), we mounted up, and we were off!One of my friends and I are experience riders, so we were given the opportunity to go ahead of the group and try to tölt. It was really quite the experience! The was another group with us, but it still was a nice private experience where each rider was taken care of depending on their level of horsemanship. It truly was a beautiful hour and a half of picturesque countryside and opportunity to commune with nature. My entire group felt comfortable and safe the entire time and would not hesitate to come back. Plus, the cake at the end was wonderful as well!

Absolutely Magnificent
I can never express how much my husband and I enjoyed this experience. We fell in love with this breed of horses! The views were truly magical and the guides were phenomenal. I was celebrating the end of chemotherapy and the guides/owners made sure it was a perfect experience. I cried when it was over because of how truly caring these people were. I’d rate this a million on a scale from 1 to 10.

Bring a head net for bugs. There is coffee and hot chocolate after the ride. All of the horses use snaffle bits which is nice but some of the saddles are ill fitted to the horses which can be uncomfortable for them.
