Welcome to Richmond

An important Native American village, then an English colonial settlement, the city of Richmond Virginia was founded in 1737 and named the capital of the Colony of Virginia in 1780. One of America’s oldest major cities, Richmond features many historic landmarks and monuments to visit including the State Capitol, St. John’s Church where Patrick Henry gave his “Give me liberty or give me death” speech in 1775, and the White House of the Confederacy, Civil War home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Food and craft beer tours, visits to the city’s Arts District and 17th Street Farmer’s Market, and rides on the mountain bike trails of Narrowback Mountain are other popular Richmond activities.
