Welcome to Manassas

Manassas is a small northern Virginia city about 32 miles southwest of Washington DC. Founded in 1852 at an important railroad junction, the city is best known for its Civil War history and the Manassas National Battlefield Park on the fields and hills where two major early Civil War battles were fought in July 1961 and August 1862. In addition to the battlefield, the city has a Civil War fort, a war museum, and an 1825 Federal style brick plantation house. The historic downtown district features 206 buildings including the 1893 old Manassas Courthouse and a 1914 railroad depot. The museums, small shops, a year-round farmers’ market, and a historic residential district make for fun walking tours.
