Clayton New York is a historic summer resort village situated on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River a few miles east of its outflow from Lake Ontario. The town is in the river’s Thousand Islands region, an area on the U.S./Canadian border that has been a highway and haven for mariners, pirates, smugglers, and vacationers for centuries. Clayton highlights include Thousand Islands cruises, the Rock Island lighthouse, and the fabulous Boldt Castle on Heart Island, a European-style castle built in 1900 by millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt. In town, Riverside Drive with its specialty shops and restaurants, the 1903 Clayton Opera House, and the Antique Boat museum are top attractions.

Beautiful building with excellent views. Interesting history in that no one ever lived in the mansion. The castle was included as Pat of our boat tour through the Thousand Islands. Made a fun day.

We were so happy that we chose this event and this company! The crew was courteous and so willing to share their knowledge and love of their "home". They were fun, too! Thousand Islands is an amazingly beautiful gift. we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Boldt Castle.

The weather was excellent and the tour guide and ship captain were excellent at their jobs! My wife enjoyed all the stops and information about the various islands. Bolt castle was a wonderful experience and great food there as well. My favorite was the raspberry ice cream at the Cafe...it was super! Would go back just for the ice cream.

Fun and informative. The tour director was excellent. We enjoyed the sights and info. The castle was better than the lighthouse for sure.

Our first time on a glass bottom boat. Very interesting and Matt slowed to allow us to see points of interest. The light house tour was very professional and informative. We opted to purchase the lunch. Food was excellent. We would book again if we are ever back in the area.

The tour guide was fun and informative! The boat was comfortable to travel in and while it was very windy, it was fairly pleasant on the boat. The lunch was nothing to write home about….skip the salad and order a sandwich. The inside of Boldt Castle was a bit of a disappointment after all the hype but the exterior and grounds were beautiful. The lighthouse was fun. It was open and available for climbing to the top. The folks giving the tour up in the lighthouse were very knowledgeable. Overall, I would do the cruise again.

Going to the top of the lighthouse and having the park ranger tell us all about the family, and the moving of the lighthouse was fabulous

Captain and first mate were great. Really an enjoyable time. Would do again. Very attentative and answered all questions about the area and landmarks. Very knowledgeable about the area.
