Holbox - the hidden gem of Mexico
It is a long day but well worth the time. We were picked up in a van from our hotel right on time at 7:50am. About 20 minutes later we met with the bus - air conditioned and comfy! It was a 2 hour ride to the boats. From there it was a 15 minute ride to the first of 3 islands; it was also about 15 minutes between islands. We spent about 30 minutes at the first island, about 45 minutes at the 2nd island and we had 2 hours at Holbox. After the islands they took us to a charming cenote to cool off. Our guide Jose was fantastic! Very knowledgeable, personable and spoke 4 languages! They served us lunch on the boat after the 2nd island and it was delicious. Homemade salads and sandwiches; water and soda included.Jose made it very easy. At each stop he advised us each step of the way. Ex: this island you do not need anything-no shoes, no cover ups, no bags. Just enjoy. The last island - bring your shoes, cover-ups, etc as you will be walking around a lovely little town. He made it seamless.Ask for Jose if you go, he was great.Holbox was super charming. No cars, just ATV’s, bicycles and scooters. No paved roads, they’re all sand, it’s great. Small and charming but does have several very nice restaurants, a couple of very small hotels.I’d love to come back and spend more time, like a week instead of 2 hours.

The boat itself was beautiful, spotless, and had such a lovely atmosphere—it was the perfect setting for a romantic evening.The host and bartenders were absolutely fantastic! Everyone was so welcoming, attentive, and fun, and they really helped make the entire experience feel special.We laughed, relaxed, enjoyed the views, and genuinely had such a fun night. It was one of those experiences that feels a little different from your typical date night and made for some really great memories.We would absolutely recommend this cruise to anyone looking for a romantic, fun, and memorable evening. Our day at Sian Ka’an was exceptional from beginning to end and easily one of the most memorable experiences of our entire holiday.What makes it even more special is that this is an authentic, locally driven experience, powered by the community. You are not just visiting an incredible natural environment – you are supporting the people who live there, protect it and understand it better than anyone.Emiliano, our guide, was absolutely inspiring. His knowledge of the wildlife, the ecosystem and the importance of sustainability brought the whole area to life. His passion was infectious, and you came away feeling that you had genuinely learned something about this extraordinary place rather than simply passing through it as a tourist.Juan, our boat captain, was superb. His ability to spot wildlife was incredible, and thanks to him we saw some unforgettable sights – including the magical moment of seeing a manatee with her tiny baby. It was one of those moments you know you will remember for the rest of your life.Jorge, our minibus driver, was also fantastic and helped make the whole day relaxed, comfortable and enjoyable.The authentic local lunch was excellent too and fitted perfectly with the whole experience – genuine, welcoming and rooted in the local community.This is exactly the kind of tourism we should all be supporting: local people, local knowledge, conservation, sustainability and an unforgettable experience that directly benefits the community.Forget the generic tourist excursions. This is an all day trip due to the distance from Cancun/Riviera maya but we'll worth it. Spectacular fresh water lake that looks like the ocean. Crystal clear water and zero seaweed. It is not crowded which is hard to believe with how beautiful it is. Seems to be more of a locals place.

This experience is one of my top 10 travel days, ever. The boat trip and float through the canal were beautiful and relaxing, and the Muyil ruins at Sian Ka’an were fascinating. It was a personalized and crowd-free experience I will treasure forever. Eduardo was in close communication as I planned the trip, and my guide Hisael was a font of knowledge. He had deep knowledge of the architecture, history, and language of the Maya people and I enjoyed exploring and having lunch with him!

Amazing sunset trip at Sian Ka’an Biosphere
I went on a sunset kayak trip in July and it was magnificent. The lagoon was exceptionally peaceful, the birdlife fascinating, and the sunset amazing - as the sun dipped toward the horizon, the rippling water reflected streaks of orange and crimson which was truly magical. Booking the trip was efficient, Antonio was helpful and responded promptly, and he went above and beyond to ensure I could get home safely. Absolutely recommend this trip!

We loved the experience of immersing ourself quietly by kayaking into the nature of the lagoon. Antonio is a great, knowledgeable guide and witnessing these large birds like Pelikans on these little islands and flying above us was a remarkable experience. Finally we even got to see a crocodile at the end of the tour very close underneath our kayak. Amazing!

We had Chilango (Cristian 2) as our guide. He was awesome! Chilango was able to speak English and Spanish for our group. Much appreciated. He learned our names pretty quickly, too! The cenote was beautiful. Water is chilly! Ziplines were fun. We did have three zipines, not five as marketed. For the ATVs bring sunglasses and a mask (or bandana) to protect eyes, nose, and mouth from dirt and debris. Mosquito repellent is a necessity. We wore repellent bracelets, but those did not work well. The last thing, bring a waterproof pouch for your cellphone to use during the cenote tour. Photos are a must inside. Lunch afterwards was ok. It was more like a kids' meal size or an appetizer.
