Wow! Was dreading this a bit due to a back issue and wasn’t sure if my back would cope with the movement. How wrong was I , Nicky our bus driver drove the bus with such care, she was polite, friendly and humorous. Steve the tour guide was so knowledgeable, funny and made our time on the bus unforgettable. I can’t recommend them and the company enough. You can also download an app to see when the next bus is due for your hop on, hop off experience, a fab way to tour York.

This is a great way to experience York with the ease of multi-generational families for getting around. Guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend!

A consideration for where to spend our week’s holiday was ‘Does Stephen do a walking tour near there’? We chose York, as neither of us have been there and knew that Stephen could magically bring history alive for us. Stephen’s knowledge and understanding of history is incredible, he doesn’t just quote facts, he explains and justifies them and often extends it with further linked examples. A random comment by either of us was picked up and immediately explored, if Stephen doesn’t know the answer he is willing to give his learned opinion based on his wide knowledge.We walked for three hours, at a pleasant strolling speed, with plenty of time to look around and gain extra information as Stephen pointed out things that were a new discovery for him too. For example, who was Mad Alice? Mad Alice snickleway is in Swinegate, a narrow alley…. or why Emperor Constantine’s sword is broken.We stopped at a number of the many historical areas and walked past others and learnt about their significance to Roman, Viking and Henry VIII’s dissolution and looting of the churches and abbeys. Highlights included Micklegate Bar, the Shambles, the Golden Fleece pub with its five ghosts, the York Minster and unbelievable crypt, the house where Guy Fawkes was born, Emperor Constantine’s memorial, Clifford’s Tower, Holy Trinity Church, Church of St Martin Le Grand, the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey, Kings Manor, the Shrine of St Margaret Clitherow, Fossgate Guildhall. Stephen also let us know about walking along the city walls and where to find the grave of Dick Turpin so we could continue our walking tour independently.Walking with Stephen is a glorious mix of history, contemporary and links in between. He picks up on our interests and tailors the walk to include topics that he knows we enjoy. He is very friendly, chatty and personable and his enjoyment of sharing is infectious and we find ourselves looking further into things he has told us when we get home. I wish my history teacher at school had been like Stephen!This was our third walking tour with Stephen, and we’re already discussing where next?

The photo walk around York with Paula was a fantastic experience. We spent the morning exploring the city, with Paula pointing out lots of interesting opportunities for photos, explaining the best techniques to use for each shot, and providing loads of background information about the areas we were visiting. I loved it and can't wait to go back to experience one of the other walks she conducts. Highest recommendation for anyone interested in photography and who wants to explore this incredibly beautiful city.

I was only in York for a few days and, being unfamiliar with the location, I booked a photo walk to take me round the photogenic sites. I contacted Paula before the walk to ask advice on what equipment to bring. She responded quickly and her advice was spot on. On the day, I was met by Paula who was very friendly and very knowledgeable. She gave helpful advice on camera settings and composition as she took me round the best locations for photography. Paula was encouraging and supportive of my attempts to take good photographs and I learned much from her.To have your own personal guide who knows the area and knows photography just saves so much time and presents so much more possibilities than you are likely to uncover on your own.I wholeheartedly recommend Paula and York Photo Walks on a visit to York.

Amazing tour, our guide was excellent and would adjust the trip for us as needed. He gave us a lot of background and historical information and was very knowledgeable having lived his life in the Yorkshire area. Highly recommend!

We met Joshua at the pick up point near The Minster. He explained the route and options together with the different pricings. All very helpful and we decided on the 24 hour pass. The bus was comfortable and very informative on our first circuit whilst we decided where further to explore. We made full use of the ticket with another 3 trips. Thoroughly recommend.

We had a fantastic experience on Monday! First of all our first trip we had Steve and Yann who were like a double act! Steve was brilliant and we found him very interesting and even though we can’t make it up the stairs it was like he was with us anyway and yann the driver kept pointing things out for us and chatting. We enjoyed it that much we came back for another trip after a very nice lunch. We unfortunately didn’t have Steve or anyone talking but we had the luxury of having driver Yann again and there were only the two of us on the bus and we felt very special as he spent the round trip talking to us and recommending places. He was a very charming young man, who like Steve are a credit to your service, along with the young man at the art gallery bus stand who sadly we didn’t catch his name. lovely tour around durham great to see all the sights

A nicely paced audio tour with interesting facts along the way. Excellent weather added to the experience. The GPS tracker wasn't always accurate so the tour didn't automatically kick in at all the landmarks but not a problem as you can play each landmark manually...and not the fault of the tour!

Really enjoyable walk around York. Paula is really knowledgeable and friendly and helped me to explore aspects of Yorks history and architecture that I might not otherwise have done by myself. Highly recommended

Always enjoy a tour on these buses to get a good look around the city. Tour was informative and guide was interesting. You can see the city in an hour and get on and off when ever you choose. Staff are extremely helpful and polite

14 September 2026. Guide Jeremy gave an excellent and interesting presentation. Great humor. Driver Shawn is such a considered driver . Well don’t to both of them . Highly recommend going on it for an overview of York city .

Had a great trip on this bus - Jeremy was wonderful as our guide. So knowledgeable and funny with it. Great value and a lovely weather to boot!
