If you're short on time, this tour covers everything, but doesn't feel rushed, though our guide Daniel is a fast walker lol. Well timed and well executed, you really just need to show up with a good attitude and a willingness to hike. Opting for the group tour made it especially easy and allowed for additional history and cultural information from the guide along with making some vacation friends.

I would highly recommend this trip, Dreamy Roads of the Balkans) for anyone who would like to see lots of places ( 4 countries) in 9 days! Our guide Saimir Zyka was exceptional! He knew everything there was to know about each country that we visited, from history, restaurants, culture, shopping, best washrooms, etc. We stayed an extra 3 days on our own and he gave us some suggestions on things to do, places to visit etc and they were also excellent!

My wife and I had an absolutely fantastic experience on the 7-Day Self-Guided Peaks of the Balkans Tour with Choose Balkans. The entire trip was exceptionally well organized from start to finish, allowing us to fully enjoy one of the most beautiful hiking regions we have ever visited. The landscapes throughout Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro were simply breathtaking. Every day offered stunning mountain scenery, authentic villages and unforgettable hiking experiences. It was truly a week we will remember for a long time. A special thanks goes to Brikena, who provided outstanding support before and during the tour. Communication was excellent at all times. We received helpful weather briefings, all our questions were answered promptly, and we always felt well informed and taken care of. We were also impressed by the quality of Choose Balkans’ local partners. Transfers and accommodations were arranged perfectly, and everyone involved was well informed about our itinerary. In most cases, simply mentioning that we were traveling with Choose Balkans was enough, and everything worked smoothly with excellent service. As this was a self-guided trek through remote mountain areas, some accommodations were naturally more basic, reflecting the rural surroundings and local conditions. However, they were authentic, welcoming and exactly what we expected from this type of adventure. Overall, we can highly recommend Choose Balkans to anyone looking for a professionally organized and memorable Peaks of the Balkans experience. Thank you for an unforgettable week!

Great Way to See Several Parts of Albania
We really enjoyed the tour. The price is very reasonable for everything that is included. Our guide, Klesti, knew a lot about the history of Albania and was great at navigating the roads and finding parking. He was flexible and allowed us to take as little or as much time as we wanted at the stops. We had plenty of free time to explore by ourselves. The tour had a good mix of everything. Gjirokaster was our favorite stop. We also enjoyed seeing the beach and the ruins at Butrint. The sunset at Lekuresi Castle was beautiful, but it is quite crowded with people. We were glad we chose to eat dinner near the beach in Sarande instead of at the castle.

Fantastic adventure in the Albanian Mountains. Beautiful scenery, although some of the hiking was difficult in the August heat. Nice hotels and delicious local food. Communication from the tour company was excellent, they responded to queries quickly and clearly and helped make sure everything ran smoothly.

A week before travel , I was contacted by the company and advised to add their WhatsApp. This immediately instilled confidence in the company. I have now just finished a 7 day tour expertly led by Saimir Zyka. His knowledge was extensive and imparted according to each group member. His English impeccable, driving very safe and he has a great sense of humour. The tour was excellent, hotels clean and comfortable with a good selection for breakfast and well presented. All restaurants recommend by Saimir were fabulous and most importantly no one got ill. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending both the company and especially the guide

Beautiful but challenging
Peaks of the Balkans is a very beautiful but at times very challenging hike with steep parts and long stretches of gravel roads where you are completely exposed to the sun. Also, water supply is not always good along the trails so you need to carry plenty of water.We did the hike in early August and decided to take a taxi parts of the stretches to avoid the gravel parts. A lot of others did the same, so that can be recommended. Especially the last 5 km from Theth to Valbona, the first 5 km from Valbona to Çerem (if you take the valley route) and the first part from Çerem to Doberdol. The guest houses will be happy to help you with this and will charge about 10 euro per person.Overall, the friendliness and helpfulness from the people we met, from owners of guest houses to the staff that picked us up in Tirana and drove us to the starting point is worth mentioning.We were also very pleased with Brikena at Choose Balkan who continuously sent us WhatsApp messages to check that we were ok and that we had safely arrived to the guest houses by night. At one point, we wanted to change guest houses and she was super helpful. She was also a hero to arrange luggage transport with short notice so if you get her as your operator, consider yourself lucky!

Incredible experience! Such a unique way to see the north of Albania in a shorter amount of time. The hikes were breathtaking (difficult at times but beyond worth it). Brikena our tour host was on top of everything, checking in every day to make sure things were going well.Highly recommend. Everything was fantastic from start to finish.

However be prepared to do quite a bit of driving over these 5 days. A special thank you goes to our guide, Anest, who was incredibly patient, respectful, and knowledgeable throughout the trip. He made us feel comfortable, answered all our questions, and ensured that every part of the journey ran smoothly. His professionalism and warm personality truly enhanced our experience. The accommodations, transportation, and overall organisation were excellent, we especially appreciated the chance to experience authentic Albanian cuisine. I also appreciated that he was open to constructive feedback and took suggestions on board for future tours.The itinerary was very well planned and showcased the incredible diversity of Albania, from the vibrant capital of Tirana and the dramatic mountains of Theth, to the historic streets of Gjirokastër and the stunning beaches of the Albanian Riviera. My personal highlights were hiking in Theth, visiting the waterfalls and Blue Eye, and the boat trip in Sarandë, where we explored beautiful hidden beaches and crystal-clear waters.Ari was knowledgeable about Albania's history, culture, and traditions, which added so much depth to the experience. Albania was incredible! We were there for seven days, and honestly, it didn't feel like enough. Our guide Ari had a HUGE role to play in how great our trip was - he was knowledgeable, kind, and had the patience of a saint!! Beyond that, he went out of his way to make sure our large group of sixteen Muslim women were comfortable with the food options and prayer spaces - the tour was so perfectly tailored to our needs, right down to significant historical sites, delicious food places, and perfect selfie spots. Insha'Allah this isn't my last time in Albania - thanks for all your efforts, Ari!
