Top Ketchikan Eco Tours

I ended up being the only one in the group. Jenny picked me up and dropped me off at the cruise terminal. Anika was my guide and was great! Knowledgeable and very kind. It was my first time riding an e-bike. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the ride to the forest. Ketchikan had received heavy rains the night before, and the creeks were flowing, and several became falls. We stopped along the way and took pictures. Beautiful scenic ride to the Tongass National Forest! Once in the forest, Anika gave an overview. We stopped at the main creek, hoping to see bears. With the rain the night before, the water was too fast for the bears to come to the creek and catch salmon. We made it to the beach where we saw some seals. Sadly, we did not see much wildlife, but the views were beautiful! After the tour, we headed back to where Ketchikan Kayak Company had smoked salmon and other snacks ready for me. The ladies were great! As I was leaving, many visitors were coming in for the kayak adventure. I forgot to mention that I also received a snack back for the trip to the Tongass National Forest. I would recommend Ketchikan Kayak Company.

This was the perfect excursion for us. My 82 year old mom, cousin and myself. Fish ladder, Herring Cove, Rotary Beach, and Saxon Village. The price was right. No bears but many eagles, adults and a juvenile. Saw the eagles and other birds eating salmon. There was a Kingfisher also pointed out to us by guide. Our guide was Teddy, very knowledgeable and answered questions about the Ketchikan area. Group was easy to find at The Rock. Ended up bringing two cans so they could accommodate everyone. Late salmon run at Creek Street fish ladder, many fish and Teddy made sure we could see them. We had time at each stop, but mindful of our schedules. Unfortunately the only bear sign we saw was the garbage can that had been the breakfast bear. I was booking this cruise for family members. Really wanted them to enjoy and not be disappointed. They throughly enjoyed. Teddy was very solicitous with my mom. Water and either reindeer sausages or smoked salmon. We lucked out that the weather was amazing, just a few raindrops. Teddy saw that I had my film camera and was helpful getting some great photos. Also many opportunities to take pictures on my phone. I looked very closely at reviews and different excursions. Booked thru Cool Destinations and couldn’t have been more pleased. Highly recommend.

Fun, clean, and uniquely Ketchikan. Great all-around. The tour was prompt, clean, and easy from start to finish. We appreciated being driven out to the different highlights listed in the tour, including Ketchikan Creek, Rotary Beach, Herring Cove, and the Native totem/cultural stops. It was a great mix of rainforest, coastline, wildlife-viewing areas, and local history!

Zack was absolutely amazing. Our boys 8 and 9 had a blast exploring. When we return to Ketchican we will book again with take a hike!

As my husband and I planned our Alaska trip with stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway, we decided Ketchikan was the place we would forego any cruise ship tours and go hiking on our own. As the trip approached, I became most excited about this day because I do love a bit of freedom and less curated serendipity in my travel. Upon looking closer, though, getting to a great place on our own to take a hike in our allotted stopover port time did not seem feasible. We debated about only doing the salmon ladder trail (but this seemed short). Both things were later validated. To get somewhere beautiful, you have to drive out a bit and the salmon ladder trail is cool but short (and also crowded).We are so happy we found Zachary's tour. It was the best of both worlds. We didn't have to stress about figuring out how to get to our hike and it felt personal and serendipitous and much more authentic than larger tour operators like the ones from the cruise line. As a bonus to enjoying nature as we had planned we learned so much from Zachary about the native ecology. I will never forget his adage "If it's in a bunch, don't munch" regarding berries and also loved the blueberries and especially huckleberries he pointed out. I found a new appreciation for mushrooms in all their various forms and learned how the trees survive and adapt, growing on stilts at times.We also appreciated the trail he took us to in Settler's Cove State Park. It was beautiful. It was raining but we didn't care. (It's likely to be raining in Ketchikan and hiking in the rain was a good choice for us, no different than getting wet in town, and the trees provide some protection.) I wish I could have preserved the smell of that rainforest somehow -- so fresh and invigorating. The beach part of the trail was beautiful too.Zachary was a fun, kind, and knowledgeable guide and someone easy to build a rapport with. His help continued even after our tour. He dropped us off at the top of the salmon ladder and gave us a useful tip on where to look for them off the path. If we are ever in Ketchikan again, we wouldn't hesitate to do his tour.

Teague was an excellent guide! He was so knowledgeable and funny!! It was so cool to see different trees and flowers we don’t have at home I highly recommended this tour.

Hoping the guides get at least half the money. They were funny!

I took my husband, daughter, her husband and 2 littles (6 of us) on an Alaskan Cruise. The littles were 2 and 6 years old. I just couldn’t figure out how we could do group tours with these little ones not knowing how they would feel and if they would be interested. Also, the cost for taking six people on a tour that the two Littles maybe would not enjoy made this feel like it was not worth taking excursions. I found this tour with Zachary and I am so glad we signed up. He was able to take us at our pace, there were not other people that were affected by whether we stayed longer, took more bathroom brakes, or ask lots of our own questions. Zachary is very passionate about nature and Ketchican history. He went out of his way to find some sea life for the girls to enjoy as the water level was low at the time we were there. I highly recommend this tour for the high value if you want a personalized experience or have many people that are in your group with various interests and attention spans. This tour was the highlight of our trip! Thank you for your attention to details and the knowledge you shared with us!

Although we didn’t see the elusive bears it wasn’t for want of trying. A great informative trip. Driver was very informative about Ketchikan and the surrounding area. Easy pick up location. Driver was waiting at the designated pick up point as scheduled.

We had the best experience and the driver, Tony was very knowledgeable and born in Ketchikan, which made the history and his real life experience all worth the trip! We see a beard and of course, he couldn't guarantee it... that alone was worth every penny... plus Eagles, rivers with loads of spawning salmon!!! It was a fabulous excursion to be on!!!

This was a wonderful experience. The guides were personable and informative. This was a great learning experience in a beautiful location. The pick up and drop off location was within walking distance to my cruise ship.
