This unique tour was a site-specific experience at its best! This was my second visit to Juneau, but I had no previous idea of the Treadwell Mine history and had no idea what to expect. I was so impressed! The history of the place was fascinating and full of archaeological remnants that were brought to life through the dynamic tour guide and just the right balance of augmented reality overlays on ipads which really helped provide context and a deeper understanding of the place. The tour itself takes place on an easily walkable trail in a beautiful park next to the water and provided some amazing vistas. I learned a lot and would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about Juneau's rich history.

This was a cute and fun experience. Found two gold flakes and they give you a vile to put it in to take him with you. It’s a good way to spend an hour if you have the time.

We had a fun hour panning for gold with Adventure Sixty North. When we arrived we were informed that we had booked for the next day. The staff were so nice and accommodating, fitting us in at the last minute. Zea was so friendly and knowledgeable and you wouldn’t have know she got pulled off from what she was doing at the last minute to be with us, When she had to leave the operations manager (whose name escapes me ) filled in for her. Both were so kind and friendly and knowledgeable. Adventure Sixty North you have two great employees!

Simply one of the best shore based experiences out there. So many tours fail to bring to life the history and stories in a compelling and engaging way. Each stop along this walking tour made the relics and ruins of the abandoned Treadwell Mine come to life. More than history, there were the stories of the people, the life and sometimes the tragic events that took place. The augmented reality really brought to life the scale of the place above and below ground in a way you would never otherwise understand. Not to be missed!

I'm a history buff, junky, serial podcast binger... this was a living breathing experience of something so unique, in a place unlike any other, on such a scale I couldn't have guessed. The way this tour comes alive through the interactive application of Augmented Reality was remarkable. It brought the whole history into the present and told it with a depth that I have never experienced.

Fun authentic Alaska experience! Our guide/driver, Zaya, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the gold history and panning technique. We found gold and some little semi precious stones!

My two teenagers and I attended a gold panning session one rainy afternoon in July. The site was a quick drive from Seward with clear instructions on how to get there. We checked in at the office cabin, and both workers were very friendly to chat with us and ask us how our time in Seward has been. My daughter loved the office dog which was a Golden, of course!The gold panning area was set up under a tent roof, and there was also no need to wear boots as the ground was dry.Our guide, Joe, was the perfect person for the job. Joe was personable and knowledgeable. He gave us a quick history of the Seward gold rush and was funny when he described how the miners would put their pans to multiple uses. Joe was approachable and fielded our many questions. He was excited each time one in the group would shout Eureka! If asked, he also helped the "weary prospectors" sift their sand for treasures towards the end. All "prospectors" found real gold flakes and other gems to take home in a small vial.Joe even showed us a moose antler that he had found on a recent hike! He passed it around, and we all got to inspect it. The nine of us in our session were having so much fun that he allowed us to stay several minutes past the scheduled time. Joe's friendliness greatly enriched our experience!

Outstanding Hidden-Gem Experience in Juneau If you're looking for something beyond the typical tourist excursion in Juneau, Treadwell: Alaska's Lost Mine is absolutely worth your time. The tour combines local history, stunning scenery, and an adventure through areas that most visitors would never discover on their own or realize was there.The Treadwell team did an excellent job bringing the rich history of the Treadwell mining operation to life. Walking through the forested trails, exploring historic mining features, and hearing the stories of the people who lived and worked there provided a unique perspective on Southeast Alaska's past. The guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about preserving and sharing the area's history.What stood out most was the balance between history, nature, and exploration. The tour felt authentic and personal rather than scripted. Along the way we experienced beautiful rainforest scenery, impressive remnants of the mining operation, and incredible views that showcased a side of Juneau that has been lost in time.

Fun and informative. Great way to spend an afternoon away from the crowds of Juneau. Enjoyed learning about a "real" Alaska gold mine and its story. The Virtual Reality was a nice touch together with archival photos to really bring the story to life! Great guide, highly recommended!

We (2 adults and our 16 year old) booked this tour looking for something different to do in Juneau. We couldn't have been more pleased with this hidden gem! The augmented reality technology really helped me to appreciate what Treadwell once looked like and how it operated. Katie was a wealth of information about the Treadwell mine and Juneau in general. We were picked up by Ishmael at our ship (despite docking at the AJ doc!) and he was amazing as well. He was very knowledgeable about Juneau and made the short ride over to the old mine site enjoyable. Walking is required, but we found it to be an easy stroll on well-maintained paths. We would happily support this locally owned small business any day!

It was a good experience and learning about panning for gold

Great experience, lots of educational information about gold panning and history of gold. Price was reasonable. An hour was adequate amount of time for the learning experience. Staff were friendly and helpful. It isn’t at an active mining operation, but it is teaching experience for how to pan for gold. If you are wanting to experience panning without investing in the equipment or you just want to have a little go at panning…this is the experience you want. It was a fun learning experience that gave us a touch of gold to show.

This was a great event to do with kids. Learned a little history about the gold rush and then get your own tools and a little bag of dirt to practicing sifting. Each kid did find a little piece of gold, so they were very excited. This was all set up at a cute location, didn’t really go into a river (which we were glad of). Joe the instructor was also phenomenal!

It was a lot of fun experiencing what it was like to pan for gold. And talking about what it was like during the gold rush.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I signed up for this activity. I was delighted when our guide, Katie, started leading the tour. Using iPads, the Treadwell Mine was brought to life. Historical photos were overlaid with the current scenery. I first learned of this mine from a Discovery+ show many months ago, and was thrilled to see it in real life.
