If you have any interest in learning about silver smithing or jewelry making then take the course. You will not be disappointed. My daughter and I did a 1 week intensive class. We already had some basic skills, but we learned so much more. This workshop experience combined with being in San Miguel de Allende is bliss. Alejandra and Jesus are real Artisans with super skills, knowledge and knowhow who open their home family workshop up to you.

And we had two other guides — Angel at the Mayan Cacao Company gave a great demonstration of making the chocolate and at the alebrije painting was another Angel and was also very helpful and patient with me. Despite language differences this was such an amazing experience. We managed to create some fantastic work with the guidance of the team. The instructors Marie and her friend were fantastic. They helped us create a unique piece to remember our stay in Oaxaca. You will need to have some strength in your hands to do the carving but they help you along the way. If you need to fill in an afternoon and you are interested in art and different mediums give this a go. My friend also brought an original piece from them that was very reasonably priced. .

This was my 2nd class with Diego, and I plan to take 1 with him every time I am in Mexico City (about 3 times a year.) He creates a wonderfully warm and relaxed environment. for everyone, and he is incredibly encouraging about trying different techniques, designs, & colors. Also, his own work is extraordinary, so it’s fun to take inspiration from him! Plus at the beginning of each class he gives fascinating info about the history of alibrijes and the 2!different schools of Alebrije painters (Oaxacan & México City). I look forward to future classes and creating my own menagerie of alibrijes with new designs. Thank you, Diego!

One of my favorite experiences in Oaxaca!
The Hands-on Weaving experience in Oaxaca was one of my favorite things I did during my month long trip in the area! It was an intimate and wholesome time with the family that runs the experience. It was just me and 2 other guests so we could really ask any questions we wanted and get to participate in all the steps from spinning wool, dying wool and more. The meals we got during the experience were also a very special, authentic, home cooked Zapotec cuisines. I highly recommend this experience to anyone remotely interested in textiles or just arts and crafts in general. You won't regret it!
