Halifax Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

We wanted to visit Peggy's Cove and Swissair Memorial and Titanic Cemetery were added bonuses. Well worth the experience! Arjun communicated via text before our excursion, so we were reminded just where and when to meet. Arjun's knowledge was informative and was just the right amount. Being in a Ford Transit van gave us an advantage of visiting the Swissair Memorial, as the parking lot is tight and did not see any buses stopping. The Half Day excursion was a good amount. It moved along yet not rushed. We were a full van, so while tight, we were still comfortable. Maybe 12 would have been ideal, verse 13. Great experience overall. Would definitely recommend Alpha Travel & Tours!

It is a great way to be on a tour you learn alot more of the places then if you drove yourself. And you don't have to do the driving

Our group of five ladies booked the Zodiac tour for our afternoon in Lunenberg and really appreciated Jason's heads-up several days in advance that rain was likely and that the Zodiac tour was likely to be cancelled. So instead, we replaced it with the Hidden Gems van tour and rescheduled the Zodiac tour for the next morning.Both tours were excellent and highly recommended!On the Zodiac tour, we enjoyed a totally different view of the area from the water. Jason (and his wife and partner Deb on another Zodiac) pointed out harbour seals, Atlantic grey seals, bald eagles, cormorants, and gulls (we learned there is no such thing as a "sea gull"). Did you know that dog whelks can eat periwinkles by injecting digestive enzymes through their shells? And that you can whistle through a periwinkle shell? We also got a geological lesson about glacial bowling balls and that there are more types of lichen in the area than wildlife (by a factor of hundreds).All in all, a really wonderful outing.P.S. Ride is sometimes on Halifax streets and busy boardwalk but mostly an easy to navigate route. Leaned lots of history-our tour guide “Gift” was FANTASTIC! Definitely worth the investment!

The boat to the island is comfortable and quite large. Lots of signage on the island to explain what you are looking at. The guided tour of the tunnels (about 30 minutes) was interesting.

Very fun way to get a quick overview and history of Halifax. Easily reached by taking a short walk along city boardwalk from ship docked in port.

Fun morning, the driver/captain & guide were great. Would recommend this one hour tour to anyone, even on a short stay

Amazing views of the harbor and I always love it when I have the opportunity to listen to live music.

Great day out. Our guide gave us lots of fun information on the drive to the vineyards. The wines were excellent and we had time to visit the shop or see the vines.

Long(ish) drive from hotel to winery The tour guide Paul was passionate and knowledgeable about Nova Scotia.

We were picked up from our hotel by a very friendly and welcoming guide- Ian. Throughout our tour, Ian was a wealth of historical knowledge, and other interesting facts along the way. He was easy to talk with, accommodating- and due to the terrible weather at Peggy’s Cove which he even had rain coats on hand for us to use - we were given extra time in Lunenburg. Honestly, this was the way to see the sites around Halifax. It was personalized, arrived before and we were not part of the great tour bus groups that flooded attractions. I would highly recommend hiring Alternative Tours to anyone wanted to travel in comfort, peace and quiet, and get a tour! Thanks Ian for a memorable day in, and around Halifax.

Jason and Deb are committed naturalists that live a committed life. Their property is amazing as well as the hospitality. Learned a great deal about the south shore ecosystem and geologic history. They wanted us to see everything so easily went a half hour over. Just nice people. They also do tours in Antarctica in the winter…

Evan was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and eager to share his knowledge. He gave us a history class during the drive :). All his advice about local activities, restaurants, etc. was hang on! I highly recommend this tour and this particular guide
