Longreach Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

A very enjoyable day with informative and entertaining commentary from Joe and Mick. Opportunity to sit in the "drivers" seat and have a yarn. Leisurely stroll around historical Ilfracombe and then a fabulous burger, a drink and a game to raise $ for the RFDS at the Welshot Pub. Yes, you could drive it and do it cheaper, but youd miss out on the clickety clack of the rail and the natural air con! Do it!

Absolutely fantastic afternoon. We also had the sit down dinner option, beautiful meal! Onboard commentary was great, as was the dinner entertainment and hostess.

From booking our tour to completion was an excellent experience. The receptionist was extremely knowledgeable Cassie made sure we would be able to join in all parts of the tour (I have some health and dietary issues.) the operators made sure I didn’t miss out. The boat cruise was very informative and the first mate did an outstanding job with questions being answered and changed hats to be an excellent steward. The campfire meal and entertainment was first class can see why the tea towel stew recipe sells out have ordered mine in line. Would encourage anyone stopping in Longreach to book this tour. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Was a wonderful experience, nothing was too much trouble. Staff very professional and friendly. If you haven’t done this I would highly recommend this.

What a wonderful holiday. The guides were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, nothing was a problem to them. I recommend the Longreach/Winton tour to all.

MY Husband and I drove from Brisbane to Longreach, We met over 30 ladies from as far away as Melbourne who had flown to Brisbane then Went by Train to Longreach for a 5 day stay at 3and 4 star accomodation The Coach INN or The Stables. Entertainment and a beautiful shop for your souvieners. I totally recommend Outback Pioneers after all they where there when we fist started going to Longreach in 2011.

BEST EXCELLENT MORNING ENTERTAINMENT Jeremy was one of the best tourist Operators his commentary was informative and funny, all the Visitors loved him. He kept the information flowing and Banjoy his trusty companion. Was right along side cheering him on. Marino Sheep are very interesting and the ride on the double decker bus around the station was terrific.

Absolutely fantastic day. I would thoroughly recommend it. The coach picked us up at Saltbush Retreat on time, it was very comfortable. The experience at the station was great, especially the little sheepdog. Saw lots of wild camels etc. If you are in Longreach, please do this.

Great night out in Longreach. Lovely setting on the river, beautifully lit, food good but best of all was the entertainment. Drew Blundell was so entertaining, lots of fun and made the evening perfect. Only suggestion would be a more home made Australian dessert eg pudding, apple pie, pavlova. What was served was very commercial slice, nothing special.

We had a fantastic trip up to the Darr River by train. Joe and David were both so friendly, pleasant and informative, making the day even more enjoyable.Halfway through the journey, David stopped the train and we all got out for a talk in the bush. Joe explained all about the different trees, sharing his knowledge of what they could be used for and teaching us so much about the local area.After our talk in the bush, we all got back on the train and continued the rest of the journey up to the Darr River, where we were met by a lovely lady who had prepared a beautiful morning tea of homemade jam drops, damper and hot billy tea. It was such a lovely treat!Joe then showed us how to crack a whip, which was great fun, and David finished the day by singing a lovely tune under the coolabah tree.It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end, with great company, fascinating stories, delicious food and lots of memorable moments. A truly fantastic day that we won’t forget! 🌿🚂☕️❤️

Best outing on our 3 month holiday so far. The train stopped at all the river crossings so we could see the bird life.The land was full of kangaroos emus & sheep.Joe provided interesting commentary and provided some funnies too.We started with a glass of champagne and at the half way point we were served locally prepared tapas if high quality while viewing the sun go down.A trip of 2 hours was perfect at the end. I felt quite relaxed - I couldn't asked for anything more.Many thanks to the whole crew from Phillip and Simon from Hobart Tasmania

The meal was lovely - well cooked, delicious and catered for allergies. Staff, including our bus driver, were excellent - very friendly and welcoming. There was a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. The entertainer, Drew Blundell, was an outstanding talent. It was a wonderful night in true outback tradition.
