Brazil Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

We had a guided tour of Rocinha with Carlos, who has lived in the favela for 32 years. He gave us a insight into life in Rocinha and was happy to answer all our questions along the way.As part of the tour, we took organised motorcycle taxis up to the top, which was a really fun and exciting experience. We then walked through the favela and stopped at a rooftop with an incredible view, where we could buy something to drink and use the toilet. We walked back down through the favela to the metro afterward together with Carlos.We felt safe throughout the entire tour and really appreciated the opportunity to see Rocinha and learn more about the community from someone who actually lives there.A very interesting and memorable experience. Highly recommend!

Loved this tour. Aside that we booked this last minute and this the arrangement for the meeting point was chaotic it was very cool. The tour guide Caio was very helpfull and funny. The trip to the top was cool and the rooftop view was the best. Sometimes a bit scary in the Favela but if you behave there is nothing to worry. Would definitely recommend!

Roberto our tour guide was excellent 10+ from the beginning of the day till the end. Very punctual when collecting me from my hotel at 7:05am. Provided extra goodie bag, out of his own pocket to help us enjoy our experience a lot more. Argentina side was excellent with perfect views, he gave clear instructions on how to follow and a group chat in case anyone got lost. Personally sorted me out with the boat tour, when nobody else wanted too go, hugely grateful for that. Brazilian side was perfect too and then took us all home whilst soaked. Incredible experience and will highly recommend doing this tour with Roberto.

Our forest guide Gustavo was absolutely wonderful! He had rich knowledge about this forest’s local plants, wildlife and history. He spoke clear English and patiently told us many interesting stories and facts. He was observant and pointed out lots of small animals and beautiful scenery that we would have missed by ourselves. He was friendly, attentive and kept a relaxed pace for our group. He cared about our safety all the time and made our walk in the forest fun and unforgettable. We really enjoyed the tour with him and highly recommend this guide!

Despite miserable rain and cold Temps, we had a lovely morning visiting Sugarloaf and Santo Christo with Lucas, our guide, who was very good at herding cats and making all feel welcome. Christo was humbling and beautiful. Highly recommend.

Overall the tour was a good experience. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy all day, but our guide Maurico was very positive and we made the best of it. He is also a long time resident of the area and has great knowledge of the city’s history. Sao Paulo is a very large city so it’s nearly impossible to see everything in just half a day, but I think the tour did a good job at touching on the highlights. I would recommend it if you are short on time or only visiting the city for a couple of days. The only negative would be that sometimes it was hard to hear or get all of the information of each site due to the guide having to split his time explaining everything between a large group of people speaking three different languages.

I scheduled the Sao Paulo downtown bike tour on an e-bike on short notice (the night before). The trip started off at a café downtown where a small breakfast was included which was very tasty. It turned out I was the only person who booked so it ended up as a solo tour. My guide was Pedro who was absolutely fantastic. His English was outstanding (which is not always the case during foreign tours) and his knowledge of the history of the area was also very extensive (more than just a list of memorized facts you find on some tours). Since I was the only one, I was able to ask a ton of questions and he patiently answered them all! The ride was enjoyable and I learned so much about the city. Most of the ride was flat but there were a couple hills where the e-bike was nice. It costs a little more, but was worth it to make the tour more relaxing. After the tour, Pedro also gave me recommendations for other restaurants and things to do when I asked about it. Although it was a little pricey for a bike tour, it was a great experience. If you book this, I would 100% ask for Pedro if possible. As a tour guide, he was one of the absolute best I’ve had the pleasure of working with, and I’ve done a lot of tours all over the world.Sent with Proton Mail secure email.

We did the "Best of Tijuca Forest" hike with Luiza and Jungle Me, and it was hands-down the best tour of our Rio trip! Luiza was incredibly knowledgeable — she wove in local history and nature facts throughout the hike to the peak and made sure we felt safe while having a blast the whole way. Beautiful views, great pace for a moderate hike, and genuinely warm guiding. Highly recommend Jungle Me if you want an authentic, unforgettable tour of Tijuca Forest!

I liked getting to know the city, the theater, the center, and I took two tours arranged by friends. I went to the meeting of the waters, with village and boto and I went to Presidente Figueiredo. Both tours are all-day, tiring due to the heat, but unmissable.

We had the pleasure of meeting Monica in Rio de Janeiro during a guided tour of Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer, and we could not have wished for a better guide.Monica is a delightful, kind, extremely knowledgeable, and very professional person. She has an extraordinary ability to put everyone at ease and to engage people of different nationalities, also thanks to a truly surprising mastery of languages, as we have rarely had the occasion to see.The day was simply pleasant. Monica not only told us and explained everything in a clear, interesting, and engaging way, but she also knew how to perfectly plan the travel and the schedules, allowing us to experience every moment of the visit to the fullest.The only negative note concerns the second driver: on at least a couple of occasions we found him a bit dangerous.
