Top Seward Day Cruises

We had a fantastic experience with Major Marine Tours. We were lucky to have perfect weather with blue skies and calm water, and no one in our group got seasick. We visited two glaciers, and the captain stayed long enough for everyone to witness several impressive calving events. The captain also did a great job spotting wildlife and positioning the boat so passengers could get a good view. During the tour, we saw whales, sea otters, mountain sheep, and even a bear. The staff were friendly, helpful, and kept the experience enjoyable from start to finish.Although the tour was about 7.5 hours long, the time flew by because there was always something interesting to see. The boat was also in excellent condition, comfortable, and well maintained, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

After seeing various youtube videos recommending this particular tour, my husband and I booked the 8.5 hour cruise since it guaranteed whale viewing and glaciers. This is a truly a bucket list experience. We stayed at the Seward 360 hotel that they operate out of so check in was a breeze, they let you know what animals were sighted on the previous tours and give you a map with a guide of all of the animals that you can spot. They recommend taking dramamine for the rough waters, we got EXTREMELY lucky with the waves that were practically nonexistent that day. I was a little apprehensive about spending so many hours on a boat if we were be bored, I was also pregnant so worried about the waves but omg what an experience. We spotted every animal on the guide. There was never a dull moment and we would pull over for whales, eagles, seals, puffins, otters, and glaciers. Our captain John was incredible and Rowan & Sam offered to take pictures and point out other animals. When we first left everyone was in seats in the top deck but once the boat was moving people spread out some went to sit downstairs in the cafe and then there was plenty of viewing space and opportunity to see everything. It never felt crowded or rushed to see anything. If they would spot a whale or animal the boat would stop, announce where it was, and wait patiently so everyone could see and watch as the animal made its way around. Seeing a whale so close in real life was breathtaking!!! We brought binoculars as well which was helpful especially to see the seals on the ice all around the glaciers (an unreal view they were EVERYWHERE).The lunch is a sandwich chips and a soda, they also have coffee and tea onboard and some drinks that they make with ice straight from the glacier! We had a brownie on the way back which was a nice touch. The experience was 10/10, do not hesitate to spend 8 and a half hours with these experts on a boat. It was worth every single minute for the unforgettable experience of spending a day in this unique landscape and seeing these animals in real life. Get on the "Orca Song" you won't regret it!!!

An incredible day exploring Kenai Fjords. The scenery was spectacular, with stunning glaciers up close, rugged coastline, and plenty of wildlife along the way. The cruise was well organised, comfortable, and the crew were friendly and informative. A fantastic experience and definitely a highlight of our Alaska trip!

It was great. Close to the face of a glacier, two bears, two goats, two bald eagles, lots of rock formations, jellyfish, porpoises. Not for people with motion sickness problems.

This was a long day! Thankfully the seas were calm on our cruise day. All 4 of us took some Dramamine though just in case. The cruise took us to lots of very interesting spots and we saw a lot of sea life. This boat was smaller than one we took on an earlier cruise in our vacation so this one could navigate into some tighter spots and could move faster. When our captain learned on a whale sighting they were able to get us to the spot quickly. It was a fun day.

Great crew! Attention to all details of trip . Quick to point out wildlife! Spent time at Northwestern glacier! Captain did a great narrating throughout the trip.

I am so happy I booked this boat tour with Kenai Fjords! After our 7 day cruise from Vancouver to Seward, where I spotted nothing from the ship (others saw whales but I didn't), I was bummed until I went on this boat tour. Almost immediately, we spotted orcas! Then 2 different humpback whales (including a fluke), puffins, sea otters, sea lions, a fast moving porpoise and the piece de resistance... A huge glacier! We got so close! The crew fished a piece of glacier ice out of the water and we got to hold it. I even had a glacier ice water! The clearest ice you've ever seen. The boat captain and crew members were so attentive, informative, and fun. Even though my kid got sick on the boat, the majority of people were fine and I didn't think the boat rocked too much. Every time we stopped, our captain made sure to stay for awhile and maneuver the boat for the best viewing of the wildlife. I took 400+ photos. This was the highlight of my 12 day trip to Alaska. The boat also has a great burrito, chips, and salsa for lunch, plenty of snacks/drinks for purchase and some freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to end the day. They also held our luggage in their secured room in their office while we were in the tour. They made everything very easy from start to finish.

Excellent, excellent, excellent tour, captain was very good on history and educating us on the area and sea life and glaciers. The glacier was breath taking so beautiful and blue. Waterfalls were beautiful and sea life was so cool to see in the wild. We saw whales, sea lions, otters, puffins, seals, eagles, lots of birds and some jelly fish. Amazing day. Great tour.

Absolutely fantastic day cruise! Beautiful scenery and the opportunity to see wildlife. Crew was wonderful and kept things interesting and fun. Lunch was nice and filled us up. Getting to hold glacier ice was a once in a lifetime chance.

It was a wonderful cruise. We did the 6 hour cruise saw lots of marine life. Porpoises otters puffins eagle sea loins whale

fantastic continuous views of the shoreline and islands throughout the trip. Captain would find and stay with whales for great viewing. multiple sea lion and seals along the way. Most important is the destination , the northwestern glacier, just amazing and up close and personal.

Captain John, and crew were amazing! Saw 6 or so orca whales!!! Which was amazing, glacier's birds and even a mountain goat!!! It was a EPIC day

Excellent experience, the captain was able to get really close to wildlife. We were able to see, whales, sea lions, seals, puffins and dolphins

We took several wildlife cruises during our Alaska trip, and the 8-hour Northwestern Fjord Tour by Kenai Fjords Tours was by far the most rewarding. If you are visiting Seward and can only choose one cruise, this is the one I would recommend. The tour departs at 8:30 a.m. and includes a light breakfast and lunch, making the long day very comfortable. While the glaciers are impressive throughout the trip, the real highlight is the wildlife. On the return journey, usually between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., we witnessed an unforgettable humpback whale feeding frenzy, surrounded by countless seabirds diving into the water. It was one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences of our entire Alaska trip. Timing is critical for wildlife viewing. The glaciers will always be there, but whales and other marine animals appear at specific times and locations. For comparison, we also took the company’s 6-hour Classic Kenai Fjords National Park Tour on the earliest departure of the day. Because we returned around 2:00 p.m., we did not see any humpback whale feeding activity. However, friends who took the 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. departures on different days were lucky enough to witness the same spectacular whale feeding behavior.Of course, wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but based on our experience, the 8-hour Northwestern Fjord Tour offers more time on the water and a better chance of seeing Alaska’s incredible marine wildlife. It was easily the best day cruise of our trip.

Amazing. Gorgeous scenery. Lots of wildlife. Calving glaciers! Crew was friendly and helpful. Lunch was nice. Captain was full of information. Highly recommend!! Dress warm!

We had an amazing day at sea! In addition to the scheduled sights, we saw bald eagles, sea otters, harbor seals, Dall's porpoises, humpback whales, fin whales, and orcas. We never would have seen many of these incredible animals from land. It was truly a marvelous day!
