Emerald Forest Tours: Private Tours suitable for all ages…

Splendid rainforest tour
My husband's father always dreamed of seeing Alaska so this last summer we wanted to make that a reality for him. We booked a long cruise with lots of stops and one of those was this gorgeous little area called Ketchikan. We found Emerald Forest Tours had the best price for our large party of 9. They picked us up right outside the ship and it was a good sized van so we all fit no problem. The guide took us around town a little bit and told us some of the history which my father in law loved. And the trail we walked was perfect because it wasn't rough at all but also still looked and felt like was the wild Alaska he always wanted to see. I actually worried a bit that he wouldn't be able to keep up (he's 73), but our guide kept us at the perfect place and knew plenty of scenic little spots for all of us to rest when we needed it. Looking back on it, I think it was maybe the best part of the whole cruise. It's worth seeing, that's for sure, and I'm glad we were able to make it happen.

An incredible tour beyond the norm
Gary was our guide, and his insights and history on Sitka were greatly appreciated.. If there was a highlight for our Alaska visit, this was it. We able to see salmon spawn, learning all about their return to where they started. We visited the bear sanctuary where he provided so many details on black bears vs brown bears including their distinct differences, their mating and birthing patterns, and their hibernation. He also took us to visit a hatchery to learn why they’re important for the future of salmon. He was a former teacher and we saw the boarding school where he taught— where close to 90% of these students go onto college. His enthusiasm for Sitka is contagious.

Perfect Day in Ketchikan
This was a highlight of our cruise. Our guide, Bianca, was so engaged and determined to make our day great right from the start. We got the viewpoint of a local and enjoyed the typical sights along with the inside scoop. Of all our cruise stops our time with Bianca on our Emerald Forest Tour left us longing to spend more time in Ketchikan.

Fantastic Tour
We felt very fortunate to have Jordan as our guide through the Tongass rainforest! Jordan shared his extensive knowledge of the ecosystem of the forest and the medicinal plants used by both the Tlingit people and the black bears in the forest. I would have never thought that animals knew which plant to eat at certain times of the year. A 10/10 experience! We even got to hold a banana slug. Thank you, Jordan!

A great alternative to cruise line excursions!
This was our first trip to Alaska. We travel frequently, but this is only our second cruise. The first one was 10 years ago. This was a trip worth taking! Our time in port only allowed for one excursion per stop. We wanted alternatives to what the cruise line had to offer. We were picked up from the same location as those who booked through the ship. Instead of a large coach bus, we enjoyed the intimacy of a small van. My husband and I had an amazing time on our hike with Jordan! It was a great opportunity to experience nature and learn more about Alaska. Make sure you pack waterproof hiking shoes, and dress in layers. The temperature in the rainforest can change significantly in just a few hours. This was a memorable experience. We highly recommend this tour!

Ketchikan- Favorite Tour of Our Alaskan Trip!
First let me say that Ketchikan Expeditions, LLC is a first class tour company that cares about it's customers! They went above & beyond for our Ketchikan tour! We ended up on a private tour of Ketchikan with our tour guide, Juan. Juans' knowledge of all things Ketchikan was amazing! He really knew Ketchikan & took us to some unique places! But what made Juans tour so incredible was his genuine love for Ketchikan; the town, the people, the wildlife! Seeing Ketchikan thru Juans eyes made his tour our favorite of our whole Alaskan trip! I don't care what tour he's leading, if Juan is your guide you'll be happy with your tour! Thanks again for a great tour Juan! Terry & Jo Schmidt

Ketchikan Expeditions, LLC with host Amanda-a sunny day in Ketchikan!
We have an autistic adult son that does not do well in crowds and around babies. We booked directly with Ketchikan Expeditions for a private tour in a small bus/larger van. It was a very good choice.Amanda was our host. She was very knowledgeable and caring, taking time to explain all of the wonderful things we were seeing. She was also funny and even sang for us (great singer as well)! We went to the eagle sanctuary and saw one black bear and many, many eagles. Amanda also showed us a large aerie (nest) near the Kiwanis Park--another really cool area. The waterfall was very picturesque as well.Amanda is an excellent guide and if/when we return with our friends in a couple of years, she will definitely be on the top of our list to contact! Thanks to both Amanda and her company!

Worth every penny!

Private Ketchikan Tour in ’67 VW Van

Worth every penny!
We couldn't have asked for a better person to be our tour guide. It was like riding around with a friend. Initially what caught our eyes was the VW Bus. We come from that time where everything VW was cool. What we got were the best spots to see nature, that we didn't even know we needed to see. He dropped knowledge on us that made us appreciate what we were seeing. Other tours were charging 2.5x what he was charging to HOPEFULLY see seals, birds, whales, and bears on their natural habitat. 100% - we saw them. We paid for a tour and feel like all the animal sighting were free! While on a cruise, we wanted to see beyond the port. Tristan's humble nature was such a vibe. We could talk about anything. The "rain forest" he took us too was something straight out of Lord of the Rings and could not truly be captured in a picture or video. Best decision we made. More than worth the cost. Thanks Tristan!

Highly recommend this Jeep tour
We really enjoyed the Jeep rental. It allowed us to explore at our own pace and to see things we otherwise would not have seen. Picking it up was quick and easy, and turning it back in was a breeze. We were able to visit Fortress of the Bear after the rest of the cruise crowds left. We did some off roading where were able to watch salmon making their way upstream in small streams to spawn. I would highly recommend.

What we loved about this tour was the knowledge of our guide and the unique places we visited. In some cases we had not even conceived of the beauty that was available and moments that touched us. Great communication and lovely to have just three of us on this tour. Very worth it to see some parts of Juneau through the eyes of a local. Highly recommend!
