Overview

The trip is a scenic, unguided, two-hour kayaking journey down the Lower Salt River. Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a leisurely five mile stretch of river as it moves it's way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.

We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site which you are returned to via shuttle after your trip. Each reservation includes a kayak rental, paddle, PFD (personal flotation device) and return shuttle to starting site.

We had an amazing time! The employees were very professional and super friendly! Once on the kayaks we started down the river and saw breathtaking views! It was beautiful all the way down but it is especially wonderful in the very beginning so take lots of photos! We hit a few small rapids and I got stuck on some rocks but I was able to get off of them with no problems. The rapids were fun!

Fun experience. Explaining the ins and outs of kayaking were helpful. A little fast for us older minds (LOL) but we got the gist of it. Be warned the Salt River is busy on holiday weekends but still lots of fun.

We had such a great time kayaking on the Salt River! The SLR team was so friendly and helpful - this trip was definitely a highlight of our visit! We launched at 8:30am which allowed us to finish before it got unbearably hot. The river was very busy, which was what we expected for Memorial Day weekend, but the SLR team provided great recommendations for navigating the crowd and finding the take-out / shuttle location. We saw wild horses, birds, turtles, and fish - definitely recommend SLR and would love to check out their other activities the next time we're in AZ!

Booked the Foxtail 2-hour kayaking trip through the website. Easy booking with multiple time slots available at a great price. Received conformation with directions and pass to get through traffic stops. It was a busy weekend so allow a bit more travel time. Friendly, accommodating staff on check in and at the riverside gearing up for our adventure. Clean bathrooms, filtered water and fun little gift shop along with breakfast burritos available in the morning. We also ordered the box lunch for after our trip which we enjoyed along the tree-lined river. Good value with all the gear and was a perfect day down the Salt River. Lots of spots along the river to stop and swim. Book a trip, you won't be disappointed! We will definitely be back and want to rent a little cabin and make a weekend of it.

The trip was great! We took our teen girls on this kayak tour. We had very little experience prior to this trip. The instruction was very thorough. The length of the trip was just right.....not too long......not too short. There were areas of quick moving rapids but not anything we were not able to handle. The views were amazing and the staff was super! I would highly recommend this tour if you are in the Scottsdale area.
