Overview

Leaving Bayeux, we head into the Normandy countryside on small backroads that most visitors never see. Stone farmhouses, rolling fields, and apple orchards line the way through quiet villages that feel largely unchanged by time.
Nearing the coast, a path opens unexpectedly onto Omaha Beach — wide, windswept, and suddenly right in front of you. We take a moment before riding on to the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, where 9,387 white crosses stretch across the hillside in silence.
The return to Bayeux follows the same unhurried rhythm — farmland, hedgerows, countryside roads that Allied troops once pushed through. A full day that stays with you.

Its impressive facade and towering spires dominate the skyline, while its crypt reveals centuries-old frescoes. Omaha Beach

Stretching over 6 miles along the Normandy coast, Omaha Beach was the most challenging landing site of D-Day on June 6, 1944. U.S. forces faced intense German resistance, with high cliffs and fortified bunkers turning the beach into a deadly battlefield. Despite heavy losses, their bravery secured a crucial foothold in Europe. Today, Omaha Beach is a place of reflection, with vast sands, remnants of war, and memorials honoring the fallen. The peaceful waves contrast with its violent past, making it a deeply moving site where history and sacrifice come alive.

Cimetiere Americain de Colleville-sur-Mer

Overlooking Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer is a solemn tribute to the 9,387 U.S. soldiers who lost their lives during the Battle of Normandy. Perfectly aligned white crosses and Stars of David stretch across 172 acres, creating a powerful visual symbol of sacrifice. The site includes the Memorial, the Chapel, and the Garden of the Missing, honoring those whose bodies were never found. The sound of the waves below contrasts with the cemetery’s quiet dignity. A visit here is a deeply moving experience, offering reflection on the cost of freedom and the bravery of those who fought.

Cool Destinations wants to make your searches as relevant as possible. That's why we offer many ways to help you find the right experiences for you.

On some pages, you can select how to sort the results we display and also use filter options to see only those search results that meet your chosen preferences. You'll see explanations of what those sort options mean when you select them.

If you see a Badge of Excellence label, the award is based on average review ratings, share of bookings with a review, and number of bookings through Cool Destinations over a 12-month period.

The importance of any one factor over any other in a sort order varies, and the balance is constantly being reviewed and adjusted. We're always updating our systems and testing new ways to refine and improve your results to make them as relevant as possible to meet your needs.
