Amazing hike with Marian from Active Travel. The loop trail around Magura and Pestera was very scenic and varied, with diverse landscapes such as barns, pastures, forests and a cave, with fantastic red and gold autumn foliage at this time of the year (end of September). It’s a great look into rural life in these areas, with lots of sheep, cows and horses, and the included lunch was great as well. Marian is very nice to talk to and very informative, with lots of interesting insights to share! Depending on how well-equipped you are, you can do different itineraries. I did the easy one and both the itinerary and pacing were great! Would definitely recommended it. Thank you so much!

Perfect day trip with Tudor!
We had a fantastic day trip with Tudor, visiting the Salt Mine, hiking through the beautiful scenery and exploring Rimetea village. Everything was very well organised from start to finish.Tudor was friendly, approachable and shared lots of interesting information with us throughout the day. The whole trip felt relaxed and enjoyable, and we had a really great experience.Highly appreciated and definitely recommended!

If you are in Brasov you should visit the bear sanctuary. They do amazing work and to see once abused bears protected and thriving is a joy. Bran castle is small, as castles go, but has an interesting and important history.

Alin was an amazing guide!We were picked up from our hotel which made it nice and easy & were then taken to the hide.On our journey we were given lots of interesting facts about bears and Romanias relationship with bears. We got very lucky when we went and saw over 10 bears. Would 100% recommend Alin - my boyfriend is very pleased with his pictures which he got below :)

Wonderful Ethical Bear Experience
Honestly such an amazing experience! 🐻❤️ I had the best time at the bear hide. I got to see several bears really close up, including some adorable cubs, which was definitely the highlight! I also got to see foxes coming around, which was such a cool surprise.The whole experience was really peaceful and felt like I was just quietly watching the animals do their thing. Our guide was lovely and really knowledgeable, and you could tell how much he cares about the animals.Seeing the bears, especially the little cubs, was something I’ll never forget. Such a special experience and 100% recommend if you’re in the area!

Great day in the Carpathian mountain villages
I was booked to join a group cultural tour of Romania from Bucharest but since I love the outdoors and walking I tried to find a day tour I could join as a solo traveller in the Carpathian mountains from Brasov first. This day suited my requirements perfectly. The day started in mist and light rain but within thirty minutes it had cleared up to give beautiful sightings of the many smallholdings and houses set in the surrounding countryside, As we walked Marian explained much of the traditional way of life, and the many invading groups which over the centuries had influenced this. The 12km walk included a visit to the bat cave, in itself interesting, and finished with a superb locally sourced lunch in a local guesthouse. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable day. Thankyou Active Travel and Marian.

Alin was an excellent driver, and gave us lots of extra information about the Bear Sanctuary and Bran Castle. We really enjoyed both activities and highly recommend booking through Alin. Be aware that the terrain at the Bear Sanctuary has some loose gravel (older guests might find a walking stick and grippy shoes helpful).

Scenic hike in beautiful location
This was a beautiful hike in the Piatra Craiului national park and our guide, Dinu, was friendly and informative. We were lucky to have fine weather so had magnificent views, and Dinu also took us through the Zarnesti gorge which was very scenic. If you like hiking and are happy to walk up and down hills you will enjoy this hike which is not too challenging if you are experienced. It travels along forest trails and unmade alpine roads through small villages. Make sure you bring sufficient water and a snack to eat along the way, as we did. I was also impressed with the good communication before our tour from Ramona and Dinu so that we knew where and when we would be picked up and they were ready to ask any questions we might have

Amazing!!!
100% recommended!! We did a day trip and, although the weather did not accompany us, we loved the experience, visited the bear shelter, took a spectacular route through Piatra Craiului and ate homemade food aloft in a shelter. Nacho accompanied us and told us all about Romania, its history and vampire legends. If we come back, we repeat for sure. Spectacular.

Unbeatable. Spectacular. And I fall short. Nacho is the best guide I’ve ever had and I’ve been traveling for over 30 years. He and his wife, Ioanna, treated us like friends at all times, being close without losing a hint of professionalism. Your punctuality and honesty are already a value in itself, but also your knowledge of the language and country are amazing. On cultural visits Nacho will tell you things few guides know about art and history. Ioanna, moreover, being a Romanian, will explain to you uses and customs that only a native can know. As for hiking, Nacho took us along such beautiful routes that will leave you open-mouthed and flexible to adapt them to your needs. As if I weren’t away, he is an exceptional photographer and a very funny and enthusiastic person who makes you enjoy every moment. In addition, they helped us to organize other parts of our trip even if we were already free and have been available to us at all times, even making sure we arrived well at our next destination. It has been a real pleasure to meet both Nacho and his wife, we could not be in better hands.

We did several hiking trails with Nacho, one of them this one. At all times he showed knowledge of the surroundings as well as watching over us making sure we were okay. One of the days I didn’t see myself able to do the route because of an old injury and it gave us the option to make a route easier and also beautiful. We also carry out several cultural tours with him, he knows perfectly the history and traditions of Romania as well as being a great photographer, we take for Spain a great report. It also has a very outgoing and affable character and the days are very fun. He also helped us by planning the rest of our trip to Romania without asking for anything in return. Nacho has been the best guide I have ever had, I definitely recommend it
