Best wine tasting in Dijon
Wine Compass was one of the highlights of our time in Dijon. The tasting was fun, highly informative, and exceptionally well done. Matthieu is charming, engaging, and remarkably knowledgeable, not only about Dijon and Burgundy but also about wines from Spain, Italy, and other regions around the world. He also has a great sense of humor, which kept the session lively and approachable even as we covered some fairly complex subjects. We began with an excellent introduction to the geology of Burgundy and why it matters so much to the wines produced here. Mathieu explained Burgundy’s classification system, including village wines, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru, and then helped us understand how to approach a wine through its aromas, structure, and complexity. The tasting itself consisted of six wines, all served blind: two Chardonnays and four Pinot Noirs. Tasting them without seeing the labels made the experience particularly valuable. Rather than being influenced by a producer or appellation, we had to concentrate on what was actually in the glass. I came away with a much better understanding of just how important the nose is when evaluating wine and how aromas can reveal the complexity and character of Burgundy wines. I learned a great deal without ever feeling as though I was sitting through a lecture. If you are visiting Dijon and want to understand Burgundy wine rather than simply drink it, I highly recommend Wine Compass and Matthieu. An excellent experience from beginning to end.

Was very relaxed/casual and we got full tour of all the wineries including wine making area and cellars. Tastings were great and the scenery spectacular. We had a fantastic day touring Burgundy with David and I would highly recommend him to anyone visiting the region. We spent the day exploring Beaune, visiting wineries and learning about the vineyards, villages and producers that make Burgundy so special.David was incredibly knowledgeable but also relaxed and fun to spend the day with. He did a great job explaining Burgundy’s sometimes complicated appellations, vineyards and classifications in a way that was easy to understand, and he tailored the experience to what we were interested in rather than making it feel like a scripted tour.The winery visits and tastings were excellent, and having David guide us through the region added enormously to the experience. We came away with a much better understanding of Burgundy, some great wines to ship home, and a lot of great memories.If you love wine and want to really understand Burgundy rather than simply visit a few tasting rooms, David is an excellent guide. We would absolutely tour with him again.

Wonderful wine tasting experience
I booked the wine tasting experience for my husband and me. We ended up being the only guests that day, so we had the experience all to ourselves. The tasting took place in the basement, which had a nice, cool temperature despite the hot weather outside. Emeline was very knowledgeable, sweet, and entertaining. You can tell how passionate she is about the topic. The wine and cheese were both delicious, and I would definitely recommend the experience!

Did not know quite what to expect from the online description; bought on price, positioning, and privacy. A thoroughly enjoyable day driving the Cotes with David, a knowledgeable and considerate guide. Saw some vines up close (I have now worshipped at the foot of La Tache and Romanee Conti!) and visited three wineries, each with a distinctive feel where we had a tour and felt welcomed. Simple lunch with the young winemaker at the second was the highlight! Sampled a good selection of red and white and quality points at each winery. Recommend you take notes and star the ones you like at each winery, then go back to David with your orders, as he facilitates order consolidation and shipping. Liked that there was absolutely no pressure to buy anything — of course, we did a modest amount of shopping anyway! A wonderful day.
