Our rough start and happy ending
II loved this tour and our guide, Maria. First we drove into town, a mistake, so much traffic and construction our maps were all screwed up. We were late but all the guides knew, and we were able to locate our tour, even though we missed a little. Maria was expecting us looking for us. She is a great guide that cares about your experience. From the walk, abundant opportunities to ask questions and explore with a scholarly, city savvy guide. I especially loved the walk across the bridge, cable car ride and boat ride at the river. Maria lead us to the boat, and departed to her next tour, great recommendations for lunch, too. I was very happy with this tour. loved this tour and our guide. Totally great experience, recommend highly.

Wonderful…Superb!!
David was amazing! He shared his history as a guide and gave a master class in Port! Everyone was totally engaged and the selection of Ports we samples was superb! I asked about how he would rank order them and by the end of the tour, I could see that all seven pours were unique and excellent! I bought several bottles - not something I’ve done on other tastings! Wonderful experience!! My friend enjoyed as well! This experience was consistent with other Cool Destinations excursions I’ve done in France, Italy and Spain!

Poças Guided Visit and Wine Tasting of 3 Port Wines
Anne_L, Sep 2026
Guided tour of Pocas wine cellars with tasting.
A careful and thorough guided tour through the geography and history of port wine. Our guide was very knowledgeable as he is also working in the industry with his grandfather. We were taken to the cellars and shown the various wines stored there in the barrels and given an understanding of the aging and times and different qualities produced. At the conclusion we were given 3 wines to taste and were able to compare the taste and debt of the port. The environment was so beautiful and the tasting room was tasteful and beautiful. The experience was unhurried and relaxed . Out individual guide was so pleasant and spoke clear English. I loved it. The only negative point I want to make is Cool Destinations booked us with a French guided tour. I specifically wanted English and it looked as though that would be accommodated. However on arrival we were told the time we booked was only French . The receptionist however was apologetic and was able to get us in to next tour with an English guide and we only had to wait 30 min. I believe Cool Destinations is responsible for this error and should reassess their booking site. It was explained that it’s not the first instance of this. The tour outside this was Extremely well done.
