La Jolla Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

It was a great experience - we didn't anticipate being in the water as much as we could have been so our shoes got soaked - so please bring shoes that you don't mind getting wet. But aside from that, this was a spectacular tour!! I would highly recommend going on this trip if you can. We saw so many neat little creatures and it really opened up my eyes as to what sea life we could see. I have tried to view tide pools on my own in the past and never really saw anything - I think I just didn't know where to look. Thanks Becca!! This was a great experience!!

We had a wonderful time on the catamaran. The sailing was much smoother than I expected making it easy to get around. Ryan was a lot of fun. He shared his sailing stories and answered any questions we had. Great views and the sunset was spectacular!

We did the kayak tour into the bay and the caves, and our guide was Alexis… She was quite amazing and made sure that we were all kept safe and was watching us the whole time as well…. It wasn’t that expensive and it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever done. I would recommend this to anybody…. He just have to have some decent upper body strength, not too much and you’ll do just fine. :)

As a local, I am so glad I did this tour with an expert. Matt was able to identify all the creatures that we pointed out during the tour. He is very knowledgable with marine life from his background and previous teaching career. Highlight was seeing a googly-eyed lobster!

Awesome experience in La Jolla! Beautiful day on the water with excellent guides! Andy and Madison were the best! Must do in San Diego!

The tide pool tour was informative and very fun! It started right on time and we had a busy hour tour.

I did this tour but on a single kayak, not tandem.So much fun! My first experience on a kayak, and I got lucky to be with a group of only three of us plus the guide. Of course, the others were all buff, experienced dudes, and then little ol' me, but the guide was excellent, and all of his tips paid off, especially when I found myself sideways in a cave w/ a big swell coming (paddle like mad to turn your nose directly INTO the wave). Going into the caves was always optional, and we all wore life vests the whole time, so I never felt unsafe.The paddle from La Jolla Shores to the caves is long but beautiful and not overly taxing—I took it slow and steady. So cool to watch seabirds glide over the sea at close range. We made stops along the way to learn interesting facts about the houses—one belonged to Dr. Suess!—and the ecology of La Jolla's marine park.The very best part was getting the sea-level perspective of the caves with cormorants and gulls perched on their ledges. An A++ experience.Bike and Kayak was easy to book with and communications were great. I would definitely book with them again next time we're in La Jolla.

We had such a wonderful time on our boat tour with our family! The whole experience was amazing from start to finish. Our captain was incredibly nice, professional, and friendly, and made us feel comfortable and welcome the entire time. We really enjoyed the beautiful views, relaxing atmosphere, and spending quality time together as a family.Highly recommend this boat tour to anyone looking for a fun and memorable experience! We had such a wonderful time! We were really nervous at first, but both of our guides gave us step-by-step instructions and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe throughout the entire trip. They made the experience so much fun, and we would definitely do it again. 10/10!

Our first visit to San Diego would not have been complete without sailing with Captain Doyle around the San Diego Bay. He had extensive knowledge of all of the vessels that we saw including United States Military vessels, as well as other others and their historical significance. Cabin oil was also able to point out all of the landmarks and structures that were on the coastal area.

I absolutely loved this sourdough beginners class by the sea! The instructor was absolutely amazing – knowledgeable, patient, and so engaging everything was explained in such incredible detail, making the whole process, feel approachable and easy to understand, even for a complete beginner. The class was not only informative, but also genuinely fun and relaxed. I learned so much and left feeling excited and confident to start my own sourdough journey. The beautiful seaside setting made the experience even more special. Highly recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn. The art of sourdough is fun, welcoming, and hands-on environment. An absolutely wonderful experience!

Love the tour, it started on time! Tour guide Brad had a lot of knowledge and was funny! We were shown a lot of cool areas of this beautiful ball park!

Kelly and I had such a wonderful evening sailing with Captain Doyle and Spectacular San Diego Sailing on their Sunset Cruise!Captain Doyle put us in the perfect spot to take in an absolutely beautiful San Diego sunset, with incredible views across the water and of the downtown skyline. Throughout the sail, he pointed out different landmarks and points of interest, but also knew exactly when to simply let us relax, take in the scenery, and enjoy the moment.It was peaceful, personal, and such a beautiful way to experience San Diego from the water. The sunset and skyline were spectacular, and Captain Doyle made the entire evening feel easy and unhurried.Definitely one of the highlights of our time in San Diego. We would absolutely recommend Captain Doyle and Spectacular San Diego Sailing to anyone looking for a memorable sunset experience!

This is a walking tour; it’s not clear in the description that you will be walking to all the stops in the itinerary. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. Judy was very knowledgeable, friendly, and high energy. She even saw some creatures she had not seen before so that was fun, too.
