Welcome to Missouri

The Midwestern U.S. state of Missouri encompasses two historically important rivers within its borders. The Mississippi forms the state’s eastern border, and the Missouri River defines the northern part of the western border before crossing the state to join the Mississippi at St. Louis. The Gateway Arch in St. Louis symbolizes the state’s important role in America’s western expansion, and three important wagon trails began at St. Louis. Hotly contested territory during the Civil War, and part of the route of the U.S. Mother Highway Route 66, Missouri has historic sites in all of its 114 counties. Missouri is also known for great craft beer, wine, and barbecue along with plentiful outdoor recreation opportunities.
