Fun Christmas Activities in Caen (Updated 2026)

We were picked up in our AirBNB in a beautiful van. VERY convenient for a ride out to the D-Day sites. The history and visuals were breathtaking. The American Cemetery was very emotionally moving. The Experience was particularly amazing because our guide was EXCEPTIONAL. Audrey was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job explaining the region and its history, from the Vikings all the way up to present day, with a focus on WWII. She was also very accommodating with my wife’s elderly parents. She was very fun and funny and we now consider her like our new friend. ! A+++++.

Enjoyed an excellent tour with guide Norman of Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, St Mere English and other airborne landing areas. He customized the tour to my preferences on the fly and added lots of insight, personal WWII family history and even a few surprises for a WWII nerd like me. Highly recommend!

Excellent guide, very knowledgeable of the history, names, dates and great recall of the facts. Very personable, a pleasure to have spent 2 very full days with.

My Scottish 88 year old grandmother has always wanted to visit Normandy to see the British War memorials and D-Day Landing beaches. We decided to stay in the middle of Bayeux which was a perfect pickup stop to meet Norman our tour guide. My granny knew exactly what she wanted to see so I was able to share this with the company beforehand and Norman could show her the route planned for the day which turned out to be the perfect private tour! Norman was brilliant from start to finish, great driver, bursting with knowledge and great company for the 8.5hours we were out. Not only did he take us to places my Granny wanted to see, he also surprised us with a visit to a lovely gentlemen with a very impressive private collection of World War artefacts, this was the icing on the cake! As it was a long day he made sure we had extra water and gave us over an hour to have a proper lunch and recommended a lovely seafront restaurant! We were able to experience beautiful Normandy countryside, Pegasus Bridge, Sword beach, Ranville War Cemetery, drove to Juno Beach and had lunch, visited the British Normandy Memorial at Gold Beach and saw the infamous remains of The British Mulberry Harbour in Arromanches-les-Bains. We finished off with the private collection tour and also explored German Bunker remains in Longues-Sur-Mer before dropping us back where we started in Bayeux. Thank you Norman, for everything! We had a brilliant day that we won’t forget! Booking a private tour with Norman @ Noresta is 1000% worth every penny, it was seamless, so informative and offers a much more relaxed way of visiting these important and beautiful sites from our British history! merci beaucoup!

Thomas was an excellent guide! We requested by Thomas, since he had so many outstanding reviews, and feel very lucky that he was available. He did a great job explaining the history of the city, and answering all our questions. Really a lovely way to be introduced to Caen. Highly recommend!!!

I had a day tour with Norman to Sword, Juno & Gold beaches with a stop at the Pegasus Bridge. Norman is a very nice bloke and is very knowledgeable, he had books with maps and photos. Looking at the old photos from the spot I was visiting really enhanced the experience. Highly recommend.

Thomas was highly informative and willing to tailor the talk to the interest of the group. Clear instructions on how to meet with him.

The museum highlighted the effect if WWII on Normandy and France and of the allies march to victory following the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944. The museum highlights of the German bunkers in the area and how the allies were able to successfully land on D-Day.

We had a wonderful personal tour of Normandy and Omaha Beach with Rodolphe. His knowledge, passion, and respect for the history of this sacred place made the experience unforgettable.Walking the beaches, seeing the battle sites, and hearing the stories of the brave soldiers who fought there was deeply moving. Rodolphe brought the history to life in a way that was personal, thoughtful, and incredibly meaningful. If you are visiting Normandy, I highly recommend taking a tour with Rodolphe. It was truly one of the highlights of our trip to France.

The museum isn’t air conditioned so on a hot day you may be uncomfortable. The overall flow and items to see were very good. We only visited a few museums in the area; however, this was the most thorough

Went with three friends for the full-day tour. We’re really into WWII and stories, and this did not disappoint at all.The local food was also great : cider tasting and oysters with local producers !You feel very free but also well looked after at the same time. Honestly a great experience, especially with friends!

A day discovering the landing beaches very original where we learned many anecdotes with our guide who listened to our expectations. The tasting breaks were also a very nice surprise. I highly recommend this tour:

Rodolphe was a fantastic guide. We had a really full day with him. His historical knowledge is very deep and his work as a film maker, with the personal stories he tells, brings a whole extra dimension to the day. His gallic charm and sense of humour made it a wonderful day. I would highly recommend him, and would definitely use him again.

After starting the day in the drizzly rain, and wondering why we were bothering to go out, we had a fabulous experience on our 90 minute tour with Didier. Didier offered to drive us to the three main sights which really made our day given the distances to cover were not insignificant given the timeframe. Didier was such a gentleman and extremely informative. He brought all the history of Caen to life and tailored the tour to suit our interests. We did a number of laps around the round about outside William the Conquerers resting place and the Abbaye aux Hommes to ensure we got good pictures before we entered the Abbaye. Didier certainly went above and beyond what we expected. Such a pleasure to be with. At the end of the tour he dropped us back in a lovely part of Caen we hadn’t seen before at a pretty restaurant area so we could relax and have a meal before we headed back to our hotel. After a miserable drizzly start it ended up being a fabulous day. Thankyou Didier. Perfect.

Not only did we see the sights, our guide had made films about D Day and interviewed survivors of both sides in the conflict. He recounted memories of these survivors which personalized the day.

It was a very nice experience. Using qula, we learned a lot about Caen. This was better than walking around in a city doing nothing. I definitely recommend it you do a nice walk and see beautiful places. In addition, you can go over goal as long as you want because you can take breaks as often and as long as you want. There is also some tension involved because you want to answer the questions quickly and correctly. We ourselves were Third party in the rankings. The questions are also very easy to answer 2 we guessed because we did not find it directly, but otherwise you find everything very easy.
