What To Expect
Kayak from the mighty Hoover Dam all year! Evolution Expeditions secures the permit which provides a fish-eye view of the Hoover Dam from its base. The adventure starts with a descent down the original road carved into the canyon walls to create this massive construction project of the 1930s. Kayak from the base of the Hoover Dam, down the Colorado River, and through the Black Canyon. Steam inside the sauna cave and soak in geothermal hot spring pools hidden within slot-canyons.
Watch for desert bighorn sheep, coyote, falcons, bald eagles, and different types of migratory waterfowl while enjoying the beauty of Black Canyon. Beginners willing to embrace the challenge and experienced kayakers need to have the physical fitness to maintain an ACTIVE PADDLE through 12 miles of flat water with minimal current.
Our professional guides are knowledgeable in the history of the Black Canyon and the construction of the Hoover Dam. Lunch, snacks, water are included. Guests must be at the morning meetup place, the Hoover Dam Lodge, paddle craft area, which is the lower north parking lot, 40 mins prior to the tour start time to get checked in by security. All adult guests must have a valid ID.

There is a short hike going up to the Hotspring (a short walk, less than a quarter mile). At the end side of the river, there will be a shuttle that will take you back.

Nov 2021No experience is necessary! Beginners are welcome on all of our kayak tours. Most of our guests have never been in a sea kayak before. Anyone in average physical condition may join a kayak tour. If you can hike or bike, you can paddle our sea kayaks. You do not need any swimming skills either.
The only prerequisite is a healthy spirit of curiosity and adventure.
Regardless of age or skill level you will find that our expeditions offer enough flexibility to make your experience with us safe and rewarding. We will show you proper sea kayaking technique and water safety before leaving the beach. And your expert guides will be with you throughout the adventure to give you pointers and improve your skills.
Sep 2022Your safety is Cool Destinations’s number one concern. In general, sea kayaking is safer than most other outdoor pursuits, even bicycling.
Jan 2023If you have any doubts about becoming seasick on the water, we recommend taking a Dramamine® Motion Sickness Relief tablet the night before your trip. Some people recommend taking it the night before your cruise and then again that morning so you will not feel so drowsy.
