Bruno was an amazing tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. We had 2 Days of tours with Bruno and One of our best tours while in Portugal was with him. The Douro Valley tour was beyond our expectations. Highly recommend Bruno.

Our Highlights of the Douro Valley tour exceeded expectations. Bruno was an excellent host and provided fascinating background regarding the areas visited. The wine tastings at a small, family run winery and one larger winery were both educational and fun. Lunch at a local restaurant was a highlight. Bruno went the extra mile helping us plan our next day in Porto, and went out of his way to return an item left behind in his car to our hotel. I highly recommend booking with Bruno and I look forward to working with Bruno again when I return to Portugal.

Bruno was a wonderful Guide he was very informative, interesting and personable . We enjoyed his insights and his sharing of his family history of growing up in the area. He is definitely the right Guide for a tour of the Douro Valley. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him.

We had a great time.. Bruno was a fantastic tour guide. Very professional and personable. He gave us a great deal of information along the way. He took us to great wineries and we bought some amazing wine and port and had it shipped home. We highly recommend him!

We took a thrilling tour of the Douro Valley on the Saturday before Easter, imagining a hobbit popping out around every curve on a misty day. João, our host and driver, picked us up at our hotel in Porto in an impeccably clean Mercedes van, and immediately began our education in the history of the Douro region. One of our party is disabled, and João planned our trip perfectly, making accommodations at every step. Northern Portugal is very hilly, and historically was very arduous to travel through. We drove through tunnels, around curves, over bridges high over rivers, oohing and aahing over the views, and arrived first at Amarente, a lovely village with charming cafe, near an Insta-ready church plaza. Of course, we had to have Portuguese pastries (the first of many to come). Next, we learned the history of the area, while driving to Vila Real. The old part of the town had many shops and church buildings - but first, we took a side trip to the Mateus Palace while discovering that many of the roads were painted for road rallies and that the city was famous for black pottery. I remembered Mateus from my university days with the distinctive bottle - but here, but at the palace, we found amazing grounds, the castle, and some Harry Potter history. Later, we stopped for some savory pastries and a demonstration of how pastries were made. The best was yet to come, as we meandered around the rivers in the region on the way to a wine tasting and vineyard tour. The region takes wine making very seriously and we learned some of the science that goes into maintaining vineyards. Due to the mountainous terrain, almost vertical in some instances, the vineyards are terraced. Wine (not just Port, but whites, reds, and vinho verde) was transported via boat and due to the rapids was known as one of the most treacherous occupations. The views from the vineyard were outstanding, and our vineyard guide taught us about the ecological practices that Douro puts in place to protect the wine making industry. We tasted a red, a white, and port - all of which were delicious, as was the charcuterie plate provided by the vineyard. Aside from all we saw and experienced, what made this trip memorable was João's intimate knowledge of the region and industry that is part of his DNA. Thanks to Luxury Douro Tours for a fabulous day! I highly recommend this type of tour - we would never have seen some amazing details and learned so much in a group expedition. I'm grateful to João for making this a highly accessible, entertaining and educational tour.

Bruno is a wonderful guy and he grew up in Douro so he knows almost every part of Douro and he’s very knowledgeable of other cities in Portugal as well. The vineyards he took us were excellent and I ordered some wine and port and they cane very fast. Highly recommend.

Bruno is from Douro valley and his passion and love of the region was evident in the type of tour he ran. This was my second trip to the region and this time with my parents. From the moment he picked us up to the moment he dropped us off at our hotel, We enjoyed every Bit. We had chosen a two day tour, one day including Porto but we decided we wanted Douro for both days thanks to Bruno. Whether it was taking us to a local farmers market to pick up in season figs on our way to the wineries or the complementary bottles of his favorite wine that he gifted us... Bruno became a part of our family and we hope to see him next year as we will return. I recommend Bruno and his tours with great enthusiasm and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Bruno could not have been more hospitable. We had a wonderful day exploring the Douro Valley. His selections of wineries to visit were outstanding

Bruno was great! He was professional, flexible and very informative. We had a wonderful day and would highly recommend him as a guide!

We spent the day with Bruno exploring the magnificent Douro Valley. He’s a native of the valley and a full-time resident. Bruno is friendly, funny and knowledgeable about the area’s history and present day. Through his contacts, we visited 2 family-run vineyards where beautiful wines have been produced for generations. This wasn’t a touristy tour of major commercial exporters. These farms aren’t open to the public. We sampled scrumptious white and red wines, a selection of different Port wines, Olive oil, jams and fresh bread, all made on the premises. The proprietors were welcoming, justifiably proud of their work and patient with all of our questions. I could write much more but you have to experience it yourself. We give Bruno our highest recommendation and our thanks for a great day.

I can’t recommend Bruno enough! This was truly an incredible experience. His deep knowledge of the region and the carefully chosen, off-the-beaten-path stops made the journey unforgettable. The private museum tour was such a special touch—an intimate experience I’ll cherish forever. It was all so unique and beautifully curated. Thank you, Bruno, for creating memories that will last a lifetime. I will be recommending him to all my friends.

Bruno was a wealth of knowledge about the Douro Valley. He picked us up promptly at our hotel and we visited two exceptional wine producers. Bruno educated us about the wine of the region and how it’s typically made. We fell in love with everything we tasted, especially the small production ports. He also took us to a traditional restaurant for lunch and recommended an exceptional local wine to pair with our meal. Finally, we visited a very special church that was breathtaking. On top of teaching us about the region, Bruno was funny, accessible, kind and thoughtful. What a delightful way to spend a day in the Douro!

I really feel like we saw the best of the Douro Valley…the 2 authentic small wineries, the oranges and lemons ripe on the trees, old vines on terraces, misty clouds in the valley and even some snow on the mountains. Through it all Bruno told us stories about the wine and the people of the Douro. It was definitely a five star experience

We had such a great time on this excursion. The Douro Valley is breathtaking and the winery Bruno took us too was amazing. The Matriarch was a wonderful hostess showing us how the wine was made and the tasting was delicious. We had a great lunch afterwards at a place recommended by Bruno and got to sample wild boar and ox and roasted goat. Thanks Bruno for an amazing day!

Bruno was a delight! He was very knowledgeable and his access to the smaller vineyards was a huge plus. It was great to be able to converse with the people who run the vineyards one on one.

Bruno was an excellent tour guide. He grew up in the area and took us on the back roads and to small communities to give us a good perspective. We visited two local wineries and had a good tasting at one. At the second, the owner and Isabelle gave us a personal tour followed by a nice lunch they prepared and another good wine tasting. Bruno picked us up and dropped us off at our lodging in Peso de Regua. He was able to provide lots of background on the area as we drove around the Douro Valley. It was better than anything we could have planned on our own.
