We booked this tour last minute when our cruise ship tour was cancelled due to an approaching storm. We were extremely pleased to meet Justin and spend a fun and entertaining day with his group. Despite difficult weather conditions, he put together many local sights with expert commentary. His warmth and enthusiasm made the day very memorable.

Excellent Volcanoes National Park Tour from Hilo
We really enjoyed our Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park tour from Hilo. Everything was very well organized from the moment we got off the ship. Our guide was wonderful — she was both our driver and tour guide and did an excellent job. The bus was comfortable, the group was small, and the lunch was excellent.Unfortunately, the much-anticipated Episode 55 eruption didn’t happen during our visit, but we still saw and experienced so much. When the black sand beach became unavailable, the itinerary was adjusted to include Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls instead, which was a great alternative.A very well-organized and enjoyable tour. We would definitely recommend it!

Excellent guide. We were lucky to see a live eruption. Justin Gray took great pains to make it an enjoyable tour. Everything was exactly as stated and better. We saw the volcano, lava tunnel, black sand beach, turtles - yes lots of them and more. Justin is entertaining, caring and overall top class!! Highly recommend!!

Best Excursion Ever
I am not a tour person. But my wife very much is. This was by far the absolute best tour that I have ever been on. Jason was both tour guide and bus driver. He was knowledgeable, extremely personable, humorous and very attentive to all our needs. I could not believe the price/value of this tour. The day before while on a larger island I paid twice the amount for a far lesser experience. I promise you will be not be disappointed.

We travel quite a bit, and this was one of the very best tours we have been on. We went not only to volcanoes national Park, but to the waterfall tour and historic downtown Hilo but what made the trip the most enjoyable was our tour guide Kimo. He was extremely knowledgeable and very, very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend him for any tour.

During our Big Island vacation, we intentionally stayed on the Hilo side for a few days, to make sure we did a tour of the Volcano National Park. Our travel agent recommended using Cool Destinations, so that's where we started. We like the idea of a smaller group, so that's the one we chose. Turned out that Mauka Makai Adventures was our tour provider, and Jill was our tour guide. We couldn't have been luckier. Their van is newer, and very comfortable. And I can't imagine anyone any more knowledgeable than Jill. She literally grew up on the side of the volcano (in the little village of Volcano), and she knew everything about the volcano and it's history. She was constantly telling us stories about the area, which was awesome. She also knew the answer to every question anyone in the group asked. I can't say enough positive things about Jill, and strongly recommend anyone considering a volcano national park tour, to specifically request Mauka Makai. We didn't meet Jill's husband Josh, but I did speak to him twice. I'll be he's as good as Jill. And this is the only tour they do now, so they are really focused on doing the volcano tour right. Great experience.

Our tour guide was Jill, and she was phenomenal. Very knowledgeable about the area (has lived on the island her entire life) and could answer any question we had. Each stop was well worth it. Jill even gave us suggestions on what to do the next day.
