Top Biarritz Full-day Tours

An absolutely genuine and authentic experience that gave us a true appreciation of Basque Country, the people, the culture and the food. Ettiene was just the most pleasant person to spend the day with and he always went out of his way to take care of us. We spent 5 days in Biarritz and surrounding countryside and it was a once in a lifetime adventure.

Our group of four couples had a most enjoyable trip to the Basque region of Spain and southern France, guided by Etienne Lecuivre of The Basque Way. Our excellent experience with him started with our planning our itinerary together. Of all the guiding firms we contacted, Etienne clearly had the best knowledge of the region and command of the English language, which proved to be most helpful the entire trip. Not only did he command English, but he also spoke French, Basque, Spanish, and probably other languages. We asked him to design an itinerary where we could focus on the people, culture, art, history, and food/wine of the region. For our week with Etienne, we spent three nights in Bilbao and four nights in San Sebastian. From there we took walking tours of the cities and excursions to the surrounding cities/villages of the Basque region. Etienne performed in every respect. He provided a comfortable Mercedes van that accommodated us 8 with luggage, he drove us the entire week and guided us in many locations personally. Since he knew of our particular interest in history and culture, he also subcontracted guides in several locations. Cameron guided us in Gernika and Getaria and provided excellent walking tour of the history and culture of the region. In Hondarribia, Marta was excellent. Charles guided us in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and Bayonne and couldn’t have been more informative, positive, and educational. One day we spent in the countryside of the region and Etienne’s colleague, Arnaud, guided us there. He has particular insight in the region, is a native of the area, and introduced us to things that most tours would not have covered. He was also excellent and even challenged us to a game of Pala on an outside court in one of the villages. One of the highlights of the week was a preparing our own meal with a local chef Jerôme in Bayonne at L’Appartenance. All in all, we can recommend Etienne and The Basque Way without reservation.

Wonderful day trip from Biarritz to Bordeaux yesterday! The van was very comfortable and the 2 hour drive to Bordeaux went by very quickly. The walking tour covered all of the main sights and there was plenty of time to take photos (especially the reflection on the water at the Place de la Bourse) and to buy canelés on the main shopping street. Lunch at a local restaurant - seated outside - was relaxed and delicious. We visited a few more sights on foot after lunch before taking the city tram to La Cité du Vin (wine museum). There was more than an hour at the museum which gave me time to do the audio tour and also sample one (or two) glasses of wine at their rooftop. There was then a 2 hour drive back to Biarritz, arriving back at my hotel just before 6pm. This tour made it so simple and a lot easier than doing it on my own (taking a train from Biarritz to Bordeaux).

Damian was the perfect guide for a memorable family experience. He is very knowledgeable about the area providing details we may not have received elsewhere, and at the small time, he knew when to give us space for sacred moments in Lourdes. It was a pleasure spending the day with Damian!

We spent three weeks in French and Spanish Basque country and one of the highlights of our trip was the day with Nadège. She provided a transfer for the four of us from Saint Jean-de-Port to San Sebastian (with all our luggage!) and a full day of travel through the mountain towns of Espelette, Ainhoa and Sare. She took us to the best markets and we had a picnic lunch with a view that only a local would have known. Amazing. Nadège was professional, kind and lots of fun.

Great trip. Andrea, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the basque culture that makes up the heart and soul of San Sebastián, Bilbao and the surrounding area.

A super long day out with a really expert guide in Xavier. We loved his local knowledge and love of his native area

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. Alby was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the region. We liked both Bilbao and San Sebastian and this is an area that we would like to revisit.

A very nice and refreshing experience. Very knowledgeable guide. Fun tour, good food great views. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful, personalised tour with Nadège, who took into consideration the surfing interests of our three teenagers when taking us on a day trip from Biarritz to San Sebastián.Nadège took us to some amazing places to eat, including a fantastic pintxos bar and a restaurant that served the best Basque cheesecake. She also gave us further helpful recommendations for restaurants and future trips out around Biarritz. We had an amazing day and saw far more (and learnt more) than we would have done if we’d try to do a similar trip by ourselves, and totally stress-free. Thank you Nadège!

Damian was very professional, punctual, knowledgeable, funny, and personally engaged during this entire excursion.

This Bilbao walking tour was great, and Jose, our tour guide was fantastic! We started near the theatro Arriaga and walked thoughout the Casco Viejo to see some of the old city and historic site (churches, architecture, etc). We made our way past the mercado and then hopped the tram over to the Guggenheim. The amount of knowledge about the city and its history was impressive! The city of Bilbao is rich in history and exciting stories of Spain and the Basque region. I would definitely recommend this tour and ask for Jose, as his knowledge and communication was great!

Clemence was an excellent guide. It poured with rain but still thoroughly enjoyed the whole day. Travelling around in the VW combi was an essential part of the whole experience.

Our guide Damien was excellent guide. He did excellent job. He was very professional and kind. The places were great. He showed us very beautiful corners where we enjoyed the sea view. Soma Sengupta India
