This was the best day in Crete for our group of three friends !!! Stavros was our guide and he was the BEST guide I have ever had. He was funny, informative, and provided us the history of Heraklion while driving us all around the mountains and country side. All village pit stops gave us a glimpse into the lives of the locals and we never wanted our tour to end. Thank you SO much stavros!! PS - WRONG AGAIN from the Pa and New York girls 💕💕💕

We had an amazing two days, and enjoyed visiting various parts of Crete. The site visits were perfectly picked and timed and met our expectations. Most important to note that Spyros our friendly guide and driver made it even more enjoyable and by the end of the two days we felt like family. He made sure that we were having a good time and that we understood and experienced the real Cretan lifestyle, he took us to his native village, his summer house, walked through his vegetable garden, we tasted various homemade drinks at his house and he took us to pick strawberries from a friend’s strawberry fields. I highly recommend this tour and specifically with Spyros as the guide.

I had a great time in Gavdos. Completely different from the more developed north of Crete. I highly recommend booking with tour with Heliophilia if you are interested in a unique non-mainstream experience

Our guides were a lot of fun to be with and seemed to know everything from mythology to historical facts to the best sites and the best restaurants! Couldn't have asked for more.

I want to start by saying we have booked trips with gate 1 entirely on the website and this time via a booking agent. Mary Ellen booked our trip to central Europe and she provided exceptional service by answering all our questions, guiding us through the entire booking process and found some discounts that I would not have otherwise found. Now for the trip: Our tour guide (Katrina) went above and beyond to ensure our well being and comfort in addition to providing a wonderful experience in all of the cities and venues throughout the trip. We visited Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava, Prague, and Berlin. Every city had a local guide and provided a great wealth of historical information. While they were all very good, the one that stood out the most was Nora in Bratislava. She was very knowledgeable but also the most entertaining of all of the local guides. The only issue with the city by city tours is it is so much information in a short period of time its hard to retain so many facts. The hotels were all top notch and provided safety and comfort as well as great buffet breakfast. I had but one minor issue with the last hotel we stayed at in Berlin. The Sheraton in Berlin was the first hotel that had no USB outlets in the room and it had free but not secure wifi. Overall this trip was wonderful and our experience with Gate 1 has been all very positive.

This tour began with a city tour of Iraklion around the old streets with Ira ending with a tasting of local pastries and coffee. We were then handed over to Katerina (an amazing guide with a professional archaeological background), our guide for the rest of the trip. After a visit to the archaeological museum to gain a great background in the history of the island, we visited the site of Knossos. The next day was a long one where we visited Chania with its historical Ottoman and Venetian influences, Rethymnon another old port with similar influences where we had lunch. On the way back to Iraklion we visited an interesting ceramic village. The third day involved a trip to the island of Spinalonga, a former fort and leper colony with a very interesting history, followed by a leisurely walk through Plaka. On reflection we wondered if we would have been better staying in Chania overnight to better appreciate the town. Didn’t feel like we had enough time to see everything we could have. The second day was long 8:30 to 6pm.

This full day tour to Gavdos was the highlight of my trip to Crete! The guide, Jacob, was very knowledgeable and made this experience even better. Gavdos is a gorgeous island with beautiful blue water, hiking and is the southernmost point of Europe. If you’re thinking about booking a trip to Gavdos, then this is the tour to book as you won’t be disappointed! Can’t wait to book again 😎

This tour was absolutely incredible, and I cannot recommend it highly enough! As a first-time visitor to Crete with only a few days to explore, this tour was everything I hoped for and more. It perfectly combined the island's must-see attractions, historical highlights, and hidden gems into an unforgettable experience.Our guide, Ed, was exceptional. Born and raised in Crete, he is a fountain of knowledge about the island's history, culture, cuisine, and natural beauty. He answered every question with genuine enthusiasm and provided fascinating insights about everything we saw. Not only was Ed incredibly knowledgeable, but he was also friendly, entertaining, and had a great sense of humour, making the entire experience both informative and fun.The itinerary was thoughtfully planned and diverse. We visited Knossos Palace, where we wandered through the fascinating ruins at our own pace, and an olive oil factory, where Ed carefully explained the production process and we were able to sample some fresh olive oil. At a local ceramics workshop, we saw artisans creating and painting beautiful handcrafted pieces, with no pressure to buy. Along the way, we stopped to photograph stunning views, the windmills of Lassithi Plateau, a 2400-year old plane tree and even goats with traditional bells that sounded like wind chimes. The day also included visits to traditional villages, where we met locals and sampled delicious coffee, raki, and wine. Ed's driving was excellent, safely navigating the winding mountain roads with ease.The following day, we explored the Venetian harbour towns of Chania and Rethymno, which were absolutely stunning. Strolling through the narrow, picturesque alleys felt like stepping back in time, with opportunities to shop, photograph beautiful centuries-old churches, fortresses, and other historical buildings, and soak in the Mediterranean's breathtaking views. The tour was perfectly paced—never rushed—and there was ample time to enjoy every stop.This was my first private/small group tour, and it far exceeded my expectations. Ed’s warm hospitality, flexibility, and attention to detail made the trip truly special. He tailored the experience to suit my interests, giving me options throughout the day and ensuring I got the most out of every moment. We loved Crete because of Tours in Heraklion tour agency and our driver guide Spyros. Spyros was a very personable,knowledgeable,informative and kind,with a lovely sense of humour (be ready to laugh all day long).In the first day, we visited an olive oil press,(learned a lot about the olive oil) stopped at the 2400 years old massive Plane tree, explored the old windmills( the view is spectacular view from there) Lasithi Plateau villages, stopped to pick and eat fresh strawberrys, combined with a cold glass of Cretan white wine and Raki (a lot of fun). Spyros bought for us a Greek yoghurt and honey, had Greek coffee in a traditional caffe and of course we stopped to taste some local fresh food in family tavern( goat meat and green beans were soooo delicious) Our last stop was at the Palace of Knossos and we really loved that.Second day, we visited Rethymno and Chania towns, both were amazing and very well preserved old Venetian and Ottoman architecture. Definitely we'll come back to explore more of this fabulous island and we highly recommend this tour to everyone.Thank you for this wonderful experience guys! A 2+day-trip to Tzermiado was a great opportunity for me to relax and recharge myself in a Cretan village with friendly and hospitable people. Although some things didn't go according to plan (the bicycle ride was cancelled, the cave was under construction and the temperature was too high to hike or simply walk around, still I had a nice time! I really enjoyed the visit to the monastery of Kera, the landscape, the traditional food in Kourites and the chit-chat with local people. Really thankful to the van driver, Kosmas - very kind and helpful!
