Chinle Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Jason Begay was our great tour guide! Funny, knowledgeable, and an amazing driver through flooded muddy arroyos! We had a wonderful time listening to his stories of his ancestors and his own past growing up in the canyon. We were so blessed to see the canyon while it was raining because we saw the waterfalls coming over the canyon walls everywhere.

Our guide was JR is very knowledgeable of the Canyon De Chelly. He was born there and still has family there. I do recommend him and the tour to anyone interested.

Booked a three hour tour, guide was on time for pickup. We did not know what to expect. What a wonderful experience with our guide Very,very knowledgeable about the canyon and the Navajo way. When you book your tour ask for Cynthia Teller. You will find it a most memorable tour

We had a great tour in the Canyon. It was super easy to reserve and communicate with the company. We booked a private tour for 3 and the price was very reasonable Perry met us at our campsite in a very comfortable jeep. He was very personable and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!!!

Awesome experience. First morning tour, we were first into the canyon after heavy rains. It was a great adventure.

Hard to explain the scale of the canyon and how the Navajo inhabited the area. You can see the ruins yet really can't get close to them. Recommend the Park Cool Destinations center visit 1st. Make sure to see the canyon photo gallery from the early 1900s. Black white photos show what the canyon used to look like vs today.

On Monday we had a fantastic 3 hr private tour of Canyon de Chelly with Leander Staley of Beauty Way Jeep Tours. Leander was terrific. He is a well read area native that is very knowledgeable of the history of the ruins, the hyrogliphics and the Navajo people. He clearly explains the history of each as well as the geology of the canyon. His aunt is one of many Navajos that still live and farm in the Canyon. During our tour we drove through the bottom of the canyon along the Chinle Wash (which was running water) and enjoyed the ruins, hyrogliphics, and beautiful scenery. It was a very enjoyable and worthwhile 3 hrs.

Cilla (may not be the correct name/spelling), was a great tour guide. She helped us understand more about the Navajo culture. It was a challenging drive because of the recent heavy rains, but she did an excellent job driving. We learned a lot and we really enjoyed our tour.

Very thorough and complete tour. Numerous opportunities for photography. Cannot see the canyon by driving the rim road. You have to get down in the canyon. Guide very knowledgeable and personable. Vehicle was very clean. Drive can be an experience if you never drove in the west. Can hot bring plenty of water.

Great tour operator (Canyon De Chelly tours LLC 928-349-1600) we took a 3 hr jeep tour with a terrific guide Reggie. In 3 hrs we covered all the highlights of the canyon. Reggie was extremely knowledgable and eager to share his knowledge of the canyon history, its people and origins. Couldn’t recommend more highly. Be sure to use this operator and request Reggie as your guide. You won’t be disappointed!!

Richard Teller was an absolutely awesome guide who gave my wife and me an unforgettable, exciting, and educational tour of Canyon de Chelly! Reggie was excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable and shared many stories and facts about his growing up in the Canyon with his family, particularly his grandmother who taught him many customs and traditions of his Navajo ancestors. He treated us to a short, haunting song on his flute at a spot where the echoes added to the enchantment. Anyone booking this tour should ask for Reggie.
