St John's Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Fee was 85 per person, well worth the price. We enjoyed every moment, learned lots of history, and had some good laughs. The 1 thing that was a little troublesome was the seating in the passenger van. 4 of us, with 3 of us a little larger squeezed into the back seats.

This tour was so enjoyable. It covers the major sights around St. John’s in 3 hours. But, it was our tour guide Leo who made it such a great experience. Leo’s story telling was very informative and entertaining at the same time. Highly recommend.

This was a great cruise excursion with the limited time we had.. a little more time at Cape Spear would have been good but all in all it’s a great way to see St John’s.. a highlight was getting to meet the local fisherman in Petty Harbour and a beautiful Newfoundland dog in Quidi Vida..

It was an excellent tour! The tour guide/driver Bill showed great pride in St. John’s being a resident for several years. He was full of knowledge and provided great info along many stops. The tour was packed full of all the hotspots of places to see. I would highly recommend!!

The tour was fantastic and our driver/guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. I really enjoyed the half day tour as we still had time to explore the downtown core before going back on the cruise ship.

Money well spent. Better value than excursions booked with Virgin Voyages. The pickup was a little chaotic, we stood around a while looking for someone in a red vest, then walked until we saw a McCarthy's bus and asked the driver. Better signage at the gate would be helpful when tourists have no idea what they're looking for. The excursion was great. Bill was our guide and driver, and we enjoyed his love for the area and his passion for the stories. The drive was scenic, Cape Spear was very interesting and he explained where we were and what we were looking at. We could look on our own, or stick with him as he told stories. Great stop with a fantastic view. Signal Hill was interesting with a lovely view over the harbor, and we could see our ship. Quidi Vidi is a picturesque community along a lake, this would be a lovely place to spend an evening. Nice little craft shop with the usual wonderful locally made pieces. Bill also gave us a good look at Jellybean Row. Great tour.

Dave was a great tour guide and info given was also very informative and knowledgeable. The meeting place was easily found and Dave gave enough time at the points of interest to explore and take pictures. The tour was well worth the money and with the information was worth more.

This was actually a birthday gift to my partner and as new “birders”, we were able to knock off a lot of seabirds while on deck! We travelled on September 18th 2026 so we knew we wouldn’t see any Puffins or glaciers. But, we still wanted to get out on the water to experience the North Atlantic waters. From check-in and to when we stepped off of the boat, Glenn was an amazing tour guide/deckhand. He was very knowledgeable and we learned so much history about Newfoundland. Also, we both got screeched on the water! Highly recommend this experience. Even without puffins or glaciers, it was worth every penny to learn all about St. John’s, Newfoundland. We had an amazing tour while in St. John’s! We had booked this months in advance since we wanted to see as much of St John’s and the surrounding area as possible. Our guide, Sandra, was right where she said she’d be as soon as we got off the ship! She took us through the old St John’s area, where we saw beautiful houses, and then off to see multiple lighthouses with amazing coastal views. Our guide had a wealth of historical knowledge about Newfoundland. Then it was off to the fishing villages which were both beautiful and historical. While in one of the fishing villages we had an amazing lunch at a local seafood restaurant. We even got to try some moose sausage. Before it was all over we went high up on the hill looking over the narrows (where the ships come in), to see the signal battery. It was a full days tour and I quite literally took hundreds of pictures! Looking forward to coming back during the July and August time frame to see puffins, whales and icebergs!

Andrew the guide was very knowledgeable. He was born & lived there his whole life. We stayed with him for the whole trip.

Three friends and I were on a Virgin Cruise (Iceland/Greenland/NE Canada) and decided to take a tour off the set agenda for the Virgin listed land tours when we docked in St. John’s, Newfoundland. After reading the reviews for this tour I was excited. Little did I know this hike would far exceed my expectations and end up being my favorite land excursion of the entire trip. Deneen is a local and was an excellent tour lead. She is friendly, professional, interesting, and a lovely person. We learned so much about St. John’s and the entire region including key historical events. We sampled the wild blueberries growing along our trail and learned a lot about the local vegetation. The landscape and views will completely blow your mind. We really enjoyed this private tour and highly recommend it. Thank you Deneen and George. Hope to see you again.
