Raleigh, North Carolina’s capital city, is nicknamed the City of Oaks for the majestic oak trees lining the streets and scattered across local parks and green spaces. Founded in 1792 and named for the English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh, the city offers many attractions. The picturesque brick downtown and fun Warehouse District host plenty of activity by day or night with over 30 craft breweries and a booming food scene that goes far beyond traditional barbecue and fried chicken. Several historic neighborhoods are filled with classic homes like the 1785 Mordecai House, birthplace of 17th U.S. President Andrew Johnson.
