Oxford Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Becca, our guide (please forgive if I don’t have her name correctly), was kind, attentive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was so fun to hear and share in stories of Tolkien and CS Lewis and where they experienced Oxford. We really heard about their friendship and their hearts. A wonderful walk and great way to spend an afternoon.

Our tour guide was George and he was amazing. The information he provided was super fascinating and really insightful, and he just made the tour so engaging. As a teenager two hours seemed a lot when my dad told me but George made the experience so enjoyable and I learnt a lot about Oxford.

Our guide, Riccardo, was excellent. With a mixture of his personal experience and what I’m sure is the standard routine of the tour, he kept our group entertained and engaged throughout, while giving us a genuine sense of what it is like to be a student at Oxford. The combination of Oxford’s rich history with its modern student experience made this tour especially memorable. The tour was also very well organized. We started at Trinity College, where we went inside, and then visited the Bodleian Library and Divinity School, before passing by Merton College and All Souls College. Riccardo packed a lot into the two-hour walking portion without ever making it feel rushed. Our group was intimate—three of us plus another two groups of two—which made the experience feel personal and gave us plenty of opportunities to interact with him. After the walking tour, Riccardo brought us to Christ Church, where we went inside and continued with the audio-guided tour. This was a wonderful way to finish the experience, especially for my husband, who is a Harry Potter fan. Tickets for Trinity College, the Divinity School, and Christ Church were included, which made the tour feel like excellent value as well. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oxford. Riccardo’s knowledge, personal perspective, and engaging style made the history come alive, while the variety of places we visited gave us a wonderful introduction to the city and university. It’s a tour we’re very glad we did and would absolutely recommend.

With a group of friends I booked a private walking tour of Oxford. Our guide, Oscar, was absolutely brilliant, he was both knowledgeable and entertaining. I would unreservedly recommend him.

We arrived early and were made very welcome. The cruise itself was brilliant and our skipper was very informative about people associated with the river such as Lewis Carroll and the university history. It was a small group and a good length of time.

The guide did a great job, really fun visit. Adeline was really kind and fun. We learned a lot about both Oxford and Harry Potter.

It was a fabulous experience. Despite being a student in Oxford 40 years ago and re-visiting several times since with my family, I've never been to the Castle & Prison. I was treating my husband to a weekend in Oxford (belated birthday pressie) and we tried to do many new activities while there. The booking online for the Castle & Prison was very easy, the young man who greeted us was very friendly and informative making sure we knew what to do/where to go and advised us about using the code provided to walk up the Motte. Matilda, our amazing, knowledgable, friendly and beautiful guide was excellent. She certainly knew her stuff and answered many questions from other visitors with great confidence. It was a unique tour, great value for money and certainly clean and tidy, despite the age! We had a short rest and delicious drink after at Kelpie's and we recommended it to a couple we met at the Osney Arms Guest House where we stayed. Would highly recommend.

Nick was a lovely chap who entertained us with his expansive knowledge of the local area and the history of the numerous colleges. I can't recommend this highly enough for anyone wanting a charming and educational guide to the history of this area...Thank you Nick we loved it !

It was so fun to see so many of the locations from the filming and our tour guide was able to share so many fun facts about the actors and filming. It was very worth the price.

I really enjoyed visiting Oxford Castle Prison. The guided tour was very interesting and informative, bringing the history of the castle and prison to life. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. The atmosphere was amazing, and the views from the tower were beautiful. Definitely worth visiting if you are in Oxford. Highly recommended!
