Welcome to Lake George

The village of Lake George sits at the south end of a narrow, 32-mile-long lake of the same name in New York’s Adirondack State Park, a vast protected region of mountains and old-growth forest. In 1791, Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter to his daughter “Lake George is without comparison, the most beautiful water I ever saw…”. Only 36 hours by rail from New York City, the area became one of America’s first vacation destinations as 19th-century city dwellers came to camp, hike, paddle, and fish in the mountains. Modern Lake George is still a major summer tourist destination with lakeshore hotels and lodges, beaches, boat tours, outdoor sports, amusement parks, historic sites, and museums.
