Hoonah Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Jonah and Neil were excellent tour guides for this adventure. We were able to see humpbacks whales and Orcas! They both were super knowledgeable and really made you feel comfortable asking questions.

This was an amazing tour and both Captain Bob and Naturalist Neil did everything to ensure we had a great experience. Finding the meeting point was easy and they did a great job to make our experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. Highly recommend this tour!!!

Our whale-watching excursion was the highlight of our Alaskan trip. We cruised farther than usual to see 6 orcas. On the way back, we spotted a mother humpback whale & her calf. So pleased!

We had an amazing time on our kayaking tour! None of us had any experience kayaking before and had no problems whatsoever. The guides were amazing and we saw some a lot of wildlife!

What a wonderful trip...we saw lots of whales. The boat and captain Josh were an excellent choice. From the meetup , the shuttle to the boat and the trip really made the experience A+. Loved every minute of it!

Denise was a great guide. The water was very rough but we were still able to see whales. The boat handled the waves very well.

NOT TO BE MISSED This tour was excellent we did the shoreline and came across plenty of whales The captain Tyler was amazing and had loads of family history and has lives local He gambled on going solo and it has deffo paid off, you must do this tour it's only has a maximum of 6 people so you can ask questions take pictures get him to stop etc etc Wonderful trip would deffo go again if I ever get to icy strait again

The boat was great and the captain was knowledgeable, attentive and knew how to spot the whales. Our naturalist was informative as well. Well worth the money bc of the extra attention and effort! A great tour!

Good bear guide. Cora grew up in Hoonah and was very skilled, informative and helpful. Saw several bears and learned how to look for brown bears.

John and Marilyn went above and beyond to make our tour great. What was to be a two hour tour was close to 3 hours as they were doing their best for us to have a bear sighting They were very knowledgeable of the area and stopped several times for us to view the area. Great tour!

They were great! Prompt, pros, and locals!! I highly recommend them. 5 stars for sure!

We had the BEST time!! This family owned and operated group provided an amazing experience! They were easy to find, easy to board and provided so much insight throughout the adventure! They knew what they were doing and allowed us to see so many whales, otters and bears!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!

As someone with health issues, is was nice that a bathroom was available. Also like that seats are only two deep, so my view was never blocked. Crew was very helpful pointing out whales for me to take pictures, also good hot chocolate on board. Will use again on next visit to Icy Straight Point.

The captain will make sure he’s close to the whales! He did a great job making his passengers happy. The tour guide is knowledgeable, and just as excited as we were to see the pods of whales hunting and breaching. It was a pleasure to be on their boat.

We had an absolutely wonderful whale-watching adventure! Dave was our guide, and he kept the entire trip lively and fun with his hilarious commentary. He and his family were incredibly gracious hosts and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.We were fortunate enough to see a humpback whale, bald eagles, seals, salmon, and even a Dungeness crab! Dave made it a priority to find as much wildlife as possible and clearly put a lot of effort into making sure we had the best experience possible.It was an unforgettable experience, and we would 100% book with them again.
