Welcome to Gloucester

Gloucester is a seaport town on Cape Ann about 45 minutes north of downtown Boston. A fishing outpost was established on Cape Ann in 1623, making Gloucester America’s oldest seaport, and the Massachusetts Bay Colony grew from later settlement in the area. Numerous historic sites and museums, the scenic rugged coastline and nice beaches, and the bustling fishing and pleasure boat harbor are top Gloucester attractions. The harbor-side Fisherman’s Memorial features a statue commemorating those lost at sea. Many whales and other types of marine life inhabit the Cape Ann waters and the nearby Stellwagen Bank Marine Sanctuary, and whale watching tours depart from the waterfront docks.
