Welcome to Durango

Durango is a small Southern Colorado college town and tourist destination. Dating to the 1880s mining era, the city’s Main Avenue is a National Historic District and home to two historic hotels along with galleries, boutiques, restaurants, and bars. The steam-powered Durango & Silverton Railroad runs from Durango to the old mining town of Silverton. Mesa Verde National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features well-preserved Native American cliff dwellings dating from around 1200 BCE. White-water rafting is great on the Animas River, zipline adventure courses thread the mountain forest, and high-country jeep safaris offer wildlife encounters, old mining sites, and majestic mountain views.
