We spent the day with Olivier exploring the Somme, including Vimy Ridge, Mouquet Farm, and locations connected to my great-grandfather, Private Harold Frank Sands of the 7th Battalion CEF, who was killed in September 1916.Olivier's knowledge of the battlefield, trench systems, unit movements, and wartime mapping was outstanding. What impressed me most was his willingness to engage with original documents and family research rather than simply reciting a standard tour. He helped us understand the landscape in a way that books, maps, and records never could.Standing on the actual ground where these events happened was a powerful experience. Olivier brought the history to life with professionalism, insight, and respect.For anyone seeking a serious, research-based battlefield tour, I recommend Olivier without hesitation.

We did the one day battlefields tour & thoroughly enjoyed the day. Phil was a great guide, really knowledgeable & timed the sites perfectly. We went to sites that we probably would not have gone to if we navigated this ourselves. Ypres - seeing the last post ceremony, was a highlight. Totally recommend this tour.

Alison gave us an excellent tour of the area. She is very knowledgeable about the WWI events. She explained the events of the war with enthusiasm. We are from Canada and of course liked Vimy Ridge, but I was also interested in the UK, French and German Cemeteries and associated stories. We stopped at multiple locations. I loved driving through the French countryside. Our tour was just the guide, my wife and I. The vehicle was comfortable. She picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off there 8 hours later. We stopped at a nice sandwich place for lunch. Thanks Alison.

Outstanding day getting to all the battlefield sites. Our host John is an incredibly knowledgeable guide. He was able to show us all the related sites we were looking for, and answer any questions we had. I don’t think there is anyone else that could provide a more comprehensive day trip. If you want to see Vimy Ridge (especially Canadians), I urge you to book this trip. John had a perfect itinerary planned, which wasn’t rushed, but covered all the points you need to see. Beyond that, he was flexible in any other requests.

This tour was so much better than we even imagined! Diane was our guide and she was super accommodating (stopping at the supermarket so we could get some vital supplies for our accommodation), and so incredibly knowledgeable. She tailored the tour so we got to see and hear stories directly related to the NZ experience in WW1 and even recommended the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Arras for a visit, which my hubby and I did the next day and found fascinating. The temperatures were in the vicinity of 38 degrees and Diane considered that throughout the day and had plenty of water in the cooler and even a hat I could borrow! If you are in the area (or even if you didn’t plan to be) add this to your itinerary. My hubby, ex NZ army, was so taken with the whole experience and it was so much more than he expected. War history is not my thing normally, but this tour changed that perspective for me. Thank you so much Diane! Karen and Matthew

Excellent two day tour of Western Front
The two day tour from Arras was excellent. I had a bit of knowledge of the Western Front but wanted to see and learn more about the battles and sacrifices made by Australians over a century ago. The tour itinerary was well put together, visiting key sites and memorials, and our guide Phil was terrific in providing the right mix of information and insights about this terrible chapter in human history. I was also very grateful to Sacred Ground Tours for including in the tour a visit to the cemetery where my great grandfather is buried.

Our Guide, Diane was terrific. The day flew by with content and personal touches. Diane had done some research and found what turned out to be a Great Uncle who fought and died in WW1. Finding his name on the Vimy memorial was very powerful. Highly recommend!
