A Magical Sunset Sailing Experience with Spiridakos in Santorini

Sailor, Billy & HassanSpiridakos is one of Santorini’s longest-established sailing operators, and after this experience, it’s easy to understand why its reputation remains so strong.I joined a sunset cruise from Vlychada and was greeted with genuine warmth by Captain Eddie and the wonderful crew: Katerina, Sailor, Billy and Hassan. Our catamaran was sleek, spacious and beautifully maintained, with plenty of room to relax as the sea stretched out in every direction. From the moment we stepped aboard, the atmosphere felt welcoming and carefree.As we sailed along the volcanic coastline, Santorini revealed itself in layers of colour and texture. We passed the deep red cliffs of Red Beach, the ancient landscape of Akrotiri, and the whitewashed villages of Fira and Imerovigli perched high above the caldera. The dark volcanic rock contrasted beautifully with the brilliant blue water, while Thirassia appeared like a peaceful island escape across the sea. Farther away, we caught a distant glimpse of Oia, glowing softly in the evening light.The crew were attentive, friendly and thoughtful throughout the journey. They shared fascinating stories and local knowledge, checked on us regularly, and kept the drinks flowing as the boat moved gently over the waves. Their easygoing energy made everyone feel relaxed and included.As the afternoon faded, the cruise became even more magical. The sky shifted from bright blue to warm gold, then to shades of peach, pink and lavender as the sun sank toward the horizon. The sea reflected every colour, creating a shimmering path of light around the catamaran. Watching the sunset from the water, with the cliffs silhouetted against the glowing sky, was an unforgettable experience.Later, we enjoyed a generous barbecue dinner prepared with great care. The shrimp were succulent, the chicken was tender and flavourful, and the pasta and fresh salads added plenty of variety. Everything tasted especially delicious in the open air, surrounded by the sea and the lingering colours of sunset.Thank you to Captain Eddie, Katerina, Sailor, Billy and Hassan for making the day so memorable. The beautiful scenery, delicious food and warm hospitality made this one of the highlights of our time in Santorini. I would happily sail and recommend you again and again.
