Top Tromso Fishing

We had an excellent morning on the water fishing on the Hermes II. The sun was shining w/a light breeze & 68° in Tromso, Norway. The crew were available to remove your fish, give pointers, & even cook up the cod we caught. Perfect day while visiting the port w/our cruise ship.

Such a solid experience!! They made us feel like family and welcomed us into their home. It was cold on the ice but they looked after everyone and offered more clothes to anyone who needed it. We were lucky enough to catch a fish and eating it right after was once in a lifetime experience. Well worth it.

Being on the Hermes II was like traveling back in time: the sound of an old diesel engine and the feel of a wooden boat - a very different experience from a modern boat. Absolutely loved it. The crew were brilliant too: they took the time to find out where we all came from, making everyone feel really welcome and valued. Our guide chatted with all of us, and really enjoy answering questions about life in this part of Norway and her reasons for moving here. The food? Probably the best fish cake I’ve ever eaten. The views were as wonderful as you’d get from any boat trip in Tromso but if you only have time for one (I did three) I’d strongly suggest choosing Hermes II.

Great experience! Gudmund is a fantastic guide. Everyone did end up catching fish, but he made sure to keep everyone engaged since it wasn’t a guarantee—little trivia, quizzes, snacks, soup etc. The long (scenic) drive is well worth it. We were the only ones on the lake, so it felt more premium / authentic than some of the tourist trap activities like reindeer feeding. Make sure to call Gudmund the “hiking Viking”—he’ll love it

We had a brilliant time with Gudman on the Best Kept Secret ice fishing tour. The trip was very well organised, and the drive through the beautiful landscape to the lake was just incredible. Gudman was very knowledgeable and funny and we enjoyed chatting to him on the way back to the city. He also had his son with him and Alf the driver, who were both very helpful. During the ice fishing, we were given some delicious soup and traditional snacks. Most of the people on the tour caught a perch and one person caught an Arctic char too, which was very exciting.

We had a wonderful time ice fishing with Karin and Oskar! They provided us with everything we needed, and their sense of fun and humor kept things fun and entertaining even when the fish were not biting. 10/10 would definitely book again!

We ( a group of 4 persons) booked a frozen lake fishing your with Rise Adventures and the had a very wonderful time in spite of the fact that we didn't catch any fish at all at the tour. Jorgen is a very knowledgeable person, knows the Tromos region as a native should do and he he loves what he does. The walk to and back to the lake is amazing and trying at this time of the year since you have to plough through the snow most of the way. Having enjoyed the first day with Jorgen we booked a boat trip with him for the next day to tour the Fjords where he grew up.

Amazing!!!!! We caught fish in multiple locations, the crew was fun and helpful. The history of this boat is worth learning.

We arrived late due to buses crashing, the skipper and the crew waited for us and gave us our own safety briefing. We were all shown how and where and when we could fish on the boat. I think all but one man caught fish, with a young man catching 5, my friend caught 4 and I had one (my first ever fish caught on a line) It was bitter on the day of our trip, but the crew provided us with warm fishcakes, hot drinks (purchased). And at lunch time we had some of the fish (cod and halibut) we had caught. We were invited up on the bridge and the skipper who was very sociable went through all of the instrumentation available to him to keep us safe. We had numerous fishing sessions, a tour on the south side of the bay, saw sea eagles, had a very informative talk on the history of the boat. I'd definitely recommend this excursion

Gudmund was an awesome guide. I stepped in an ice hole and I didn’t catch a fish but I had the best time with the most perfect views. It is so beautiful and peaceful fishing on the frozen lake. Definitely wear warm socks. The soup, snack and hot chocolate really hit the spot. Be prepared to have no formal bathroom access for the almost the full tour.

We really enjoyed this ice fishing experience. The excursion was well-organized, and the guides were friendly. It was really special being able to go back to Karin's home to cook and enjoy the fish we caught!

I had an amazing day on this fishing trip! The crew made everyone feel so welcome from the start, and the boat itself was beautiful and very well maintained. Everything was explained clearly, which made the experience easy and enjoyable for everyone, even those who came alone.The fishing was fantastic — we caught fish and even got to enjoy it for lunch, which made the whole experience even more special. On top of that, the views were incredible, making it a perfect day all around.I would definitely do this again and highly recommend it to anyone. A big thank you to the crew for giving us a memory we’ll never forget!

The Hermes II cruise was one of the highlights of our trip to Tromsø. The boat is beautiful, full of character, and the experience feels very authentic and intimate.What stood out the most was how kind and welcoming the guides were. They made everyone feel comfortable and were clearly passionate about sharing their knowledge and stories.The most incredible part of the experience was being patiently taught how to fish—and actually catching a big cod! It was such a unique and memorable moment.We also want to share something personal: I am Black and my friend is Asian, and even though most of the other guests appeared Caucasian, we did not feel out of place at all. The atmosphere was warm, respectful, and inclusive, which made the experience even more enjoyable.And to top it all off, we saw sea eagles up close—absolutely breathtaking.The scenery is stunning, and being out on the water gives you a completely different perspective of Tromsø.
