Raiatea Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Decided to try this tour while on the Windstar cruise. We have done several over the past few years with Cool Destinations but this was the best by far. First, our guide Terehau was the best. He was so funny and entertaining the whole day. He keep us informed of what we were doing during the day and gave us time to enjoy each stop. The food was amazing at lunch and again the staff were all very welcoming and helpful. The best part was the snorkel thru the coral garden. Terehau effortlessly lead 10 of us through with calm reassurance. Would highly recommend this tour!!

Roy was an excellent guide who told us all about Raiatea.and Tahaa and took us to an amazing part of the Tahaa coral garden where we have never seen so much healthy coral and a great variety of fish. We highly recommend Papa Zulu and Roy!

Great fun and informative. Packed with a little bit of everything. You get taste alcohol, see how vanilla is made, hear about pearl creation and have a great lunch and time to relax on a private island, there were only 6 people on the tour so it was a personalized fun experience. Well worth it.

Travel through the heart of the island and into the middle of the caldera. Enjoy the verdand vistas. Visit a pearl farm and learn how these beautiful objects are created. Finally visit Gerrard's farm to taste his exquisite local honey infused with home grown vanilla.. The highlight for me was the visit to the ancient marae. Kia Kaha.

We did the tour with James's wife who shared great knowledge with us about the river and what it could provide to the Polynesians (food source, medicinal...) all along the way. We were also able to enjoy a very welcome fruit-based snack. James and his wife are very concerned about the well-being of their clients and their satisfaction. We had a very good time in their company and recommend them with our eyes closed! A big thank you to you!

Superb tour of the island of Taha’a with great stops: pearl farm, vanilla plantation, coral garden, and motu! The lunch was delicious. And a thousand thanks to our guide Eiko for her kindness!

Just a fabulous day with our skipper and guide, Jimmy. Our cruise ship docked in Raiatea. The tour boat met us at the pier just a 5 minute walk away. The boat is well designed with easy entry from docks at the side of the vessel or from the stern down a ladder into the water. Seating was cushioned and comfortable. The young people on the tour lounged on the outrigger trampoline. We did six things: 1. Visit to a pearl farm where we got a great explanation of how Tahitian pearls are created. Beautiful jewelry was available for purchase, but no pressure to do so 2. Drift snorkel at the coral garden. We anchored on the inside, walked along the shore to the channel entrance, then drift snorkelled back through the channel. No fins needed or even desired. Just water shoes for the shore walk. The channel is zigzagged, so following your guide is important. Good coral, colourful fish including a lion fish, colourful clams. A wonderful snorkel experience. 3. A rum distillery tour. A good informative tour. Interesting, and neither of us are rum drinkers. 4. A second snorkel stop. Highlight was many reef sharks. 5. Lunch on a motu with very generous portions of local cuisine in an idyllic setting. 6. Tour of a vanilla farm. Very detailed and interesting explanation of the 4 years it takes to grow a vanilla bean. Vanilla beans and products for sale, again with no pressure to do so. So, a full day, but relaxed and never a feeling at any stop of being rushed. A great tour. Back to the dock in plenty of time to board our ship. Hats off to Jimmy.

We spent the day with Tura and it was a day worthy of a dream.We visited several snorkeling spots, including the famous coral garden. We were able to observe everything most beautiful in the lagoon (rays, sharks, corals, fish of all colors, etc.)We were also able to visit several local farms, in particular the rum and vanilla, which were excellent.To top it all off, we ate on a motu where we were alone in the world, the dishes prepared at home by Tura which were to die for.Tura does his best to show you the best places in Taha’a and organizes things so that you are as comfortable as possible (schedules with few crowds, tour adaptation, etc.) We therefore recommend him to everyone!
