Overview
The Portimão municipal market is a place of authentic discovery of the freshest and most characteristic products of the Algarve region, with a wide range of fresh fish on offer from Tuesday to Saturday. Interaction with the vendors is great fun and the lively atmosphere of an authentic local market offers a glimpse into local life. You will learn about the region's fishing industry, one of the few in Portugal where you can still buy the freshest fish in a city market, sold directly by fishermen to private consumers. During the experience you will learn how to grill different types of fish (fresh and seasonal) and taste the typical snacks that accompany fish barbecues in the Algarve, which are both art and tradition, a characteristic summer ritual celebrated in every Algarvian home. The experience includes a bottle of regional wine and, to end the meal on a high note, you will be served homemade limoncello at the end.

What To Expect
There are few better meals than a piece of great quality fish, simply grilled or smoked. The emphasis of this fun, relaxed, hands-on class is on learning to choose the best fish, and to bring out its best using a charcoal barbecue. Our Grill Master will teach you his meticulous low and slow process for mouth-watering dishes. Starting from the market, our Chef will bring you to the fish, fruit and vegetable vendor stalls; there, you will be shown and explained the seasonality of fish and vegetables. You will then drive to the 'Gato Preto de Silves', a charming Mediterranean-style Quinta nestled in the beautiful Silves countryside, where Gloria will welcome you with a fresh aperitif to start the cooking class. The selection of fish, the temperature each fish needs, and the cooking time for a perfect barbecue ensure that the fish fully retains its flavor, enriched with sauces prepared by the chef at the moment in front of you. The dishes will be masterfully paired with white and red wines from the Algarve. Finally, we will sit together under the Bougainvillea to sip a refreshing home-limoncello in a relaxed, friendly and festive atmosphere.
