What To Expect
8:30 AM: Pick-up from your hotel in Munich. We will head south for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes directly to Lake Eibsee, the base for the Zugspitze—Germany's highest mountain at 2,962 meters above sea level ;-)
From there, a modern cable car will whisk us to the mountain peak in under 10 minutes, where you can take in magnificent panoramic views over the Alps. Because the summit crosses the border into Austria, you’ll have the unique chance to sample both Bavarian and Tyrolean specialties in one spot! You can also take a smaller cable car down to the glacier for a little extra fun in the snow. We typically spend 2 to 3 hours at the top before taking the cable car back down. If you're up for it, we can then walk a section of the trail around Lake Eibsee for breathtaking photos with the Zugspitze in the background ;-)
Afterward, a quick 20-minute drive will bring us to the heart of charming Garmisch-Partenkirchen—host of the 1936 Winter Olympics and still a major hub for sports in Germany.
Here, you can sit down for lunch (if you haven't eaten on the Zugspitze), after which we’ll take you on a tour to see the highlights of both Garmisch and Partenkirchen, which were once two independent towns.
We plan to depart shortly after 4:00 PM, returning to Munich at around 5:30 PM ;-)
