The guide was very knowledgeable and covered a wide range of topics. We had more time to wander around because we didn’t have to stand and read since she had already relayed the info to us.

It definitely is the way to see The Eagle’s Nest. Claudio was a fabulous guide and gave us lots of tidbits of history that most likely none of us knew. We also saw where Hitler’s home was and the Tea House part way up the hill, which most people don’t get to see. So much information, good exercise and a comprehensive visit for the time we had. You do have to be in shape to a degree because there is an uphill climb up.

Franz was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the area. Spectacular views. The documentation center and bunker are a must.

Amy did a great job in explaining the historical relevance, what happened then and why it looks like it does now etc. While the group had many questions she made sure they were all fully answered and made herself and her expertise available to the group. I would recommend this tour to anybody interested.

I spent nearly eight hours with Tom Lewis exploring the Obersalzberg and Berchtesgaden area, and it was quite simply one of the most memorable historical tours I have ever taken.Tom is not merely a tour guide. He has lived in the area for some 20 years and has devoted a significant part of his life to understanding its history. Over the years, he has interviewed people who worked at the Berghof and has been in contact with family members and descendants of people connected with Hitler's inner circle. That depth of knowledge becomes apparent very quickly.What distinguishes Tom, however, is his ability to connect that knowledge to the ground beneath your feet. We explored the remains of the Berghof and surrounding complex, portions of the extraordinary underground bunker system, the site of Hitler's Teehaus, the Kampfhäusl and numerous locations that I would have walked straight past without realizing their significance. We also visited the Eagle's Nest, travelling through the original tunnel and taking Hitler's remarkable brass-lined elevator up through the mountain.Tom knows this landscape intimately. He can explain not simply what happened, but where it happened, how the various sites related to one another and how this enormous complex functioned. Just as importantly, he distinguishes carefully between documented history and the mythology that has inevitably grown around this period.I came to the tour having already spent considerable time reading about the Third Reich and visiting WWII sites in Normandy, Berlin, Munich and Nuremberg. I therefore wasn't looking for an introductory sightseeing tour. Tom exceeded my expectations by a considerable margin. I learned an enormous amount.He is also excellent company: personable, thoughtful, patient and genuinely enthusiastic about the history without ever sensationalizing it.Perhaps the best measure of the day came after nearly eight hours of getting in and out of Tom's van, climbing up and down the mountainside, following trails through the woods, exploring bunkers and stopping at one remarkable site after another. Eventually I looked at him and said, "Tom, I don't think I can take in any more today."And I meant it. Not because the day had dragged on, but precisely the opposite. My head was full. There had been so much to see, so much history to absorb and so many things Tom had shown me that I would never have discovered on my own.It was that full — and that good.For anyone with a serious interest in WWII history, the Third Reich or the Obersalzberg, I would strongly recommend arranging a private tour with Tom. If your interest goes beyond simply seeing the Eagle's Nest and you really want to understand what happened here, Tom is the guide you want.Exceptional.That little exchange also sounds much more like your experience than a polished travel-site testimonial; I think it is what makes the review memorable.

Had a fantastic hike with my wife up to the Eagle's Nest with Claudio. He was an excellent and extremely knowledgable guide. We were able to see things related to WWII history that you won't see on the bus trip to the top. The hike was good exercise, a consistent incline but definitely doable. Took us about 2 1/2 hours to get to the entrance to the elevator to the Nest. The views were spectacular and we were fortunate to have Claudio all to ourselves this particular day. This was the last thing we did on our week long trip to Switzerland and Austria and it was definitely a highlight. Book this tour if you want a more active way to get to the Eagle's Nest. You won't regret it.

You will not be disappointed with this guide. I honestly can’t imagine that anyone could be more knowledgeable about this area and its history. My only regret is I couldn’t spend more time with them.

My husband and I had a fantastic afternoon with our guide Tom, who picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off afterwards. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. We would definitely recommend a tour with Tom.

Very good guide. Personally customized tour was possible. The guide tests where the interest lies and builds on it. Definitely recommended, especially the plan of the house with the remaining relics made this visit a winner

We were a group of 12 which is no easy feat! Tom was very knowledgable, as well as a pleasure. He made the tour very interesting and was able to project so that we all could hear him. I would highly recommend Tom!

This was an absolutely amazing experience that i am so glad we took! Claudio was beyond amazing! Kind, enthusiastic, and full of so much knowledge. We learned so much on this hike. The hike itself was hard, I’ll be honest. The last 2/3rds really took it out of us, but once we were to the top, we were so glad we did it!
